i am going to be ordering wheels for my 450r soon and am not sure what size rear wheel to use.

i am going to be riding mx, trails, and probably racing some gps.

i have +2 arms coming and a +4 axle on the way.

should i run an 8x8 or a 9x9 wheel and why?

thanks.

9", they are more of a general purpose size for doing all those things.

Yeah, 9" is more general purpose for sure. If you just raced track and MX I would say get the 8inch, but you are talking about doing GPs and trails too, so youll most likely want to be running a 20" rear tire. 20" tires on an 8" rim make you more succeptible to sidewall punctures, and they will flex more in turns so it is only adviseable in rocky terrain where they will give a little more cushion.

8in rim for 18's and 9 in rim for 20's... best combos there is for those tire sizes.. 18in tire on a 9 in rim doesn't have enough sidewall to really flex good enough. and like the tc dude say, 20 on 8in rim has to much side wall flex
