I was racing a buddy down a flat, straight road, 5th gear pinned for about 2 miles. Then my bike just shut down. As I was slowing it regained power, but now there is a loud knocking sound but it is coming from the head. The quad still had power and all feels fine except that noise. Any suggestions?:(

Head gasket is my guess. Feel around the cylinder-head mating surface for leakage.

HEY, its a trickey sound mine was dooin the same i thought it was the valves but ruled that out , then was reall worried it was the rod, but again ruled that out, i found out the timing chain was really loose and was slapping the inside of the block where it goes up next to the cylender, i got a new chain and put the motor back together n it ran fine, im not saying this is ur problem, but if ur comfotable ripping the top end of ur motor apart do it, it will save u some$$$ also get a clymer manual, it has lots of great help!
