junk clutch basket?

i put new plates and springs in my 400 after i put the pressure plate on the plates were loose like there needed to be another one so i put another steel in the back of all of them. when i got it going it slipped like it did before after 2 laps if a race i lost all the gears like the clutch was engaged. i took it back apart and inside the basket is a bunch of black crud on the walls if the basket. the basket also has little indentations where the clutch plate tabs rest. is my problem the basket?

First of all you have to start and end with a fiber plate. Steel on aluminum is just gonna cause problems.

Secondly if there are grooves in the basket fingers you need a new basket.

You probly need a new inner hub now too since you had the steel plate up against it.

And change that oil ASAP. I'd change it, run it for 10 - 20 min and change it again to get the crud out....
