I had a 406 and just today:D , I installed the 425 from TC and its a little to early to tell but she seems a little bit more torquer (sp?) The only thing I did was the boring and the 425 piston. I was already set with cam ect.. I skipped the 416 and should of skipped the 406 but next time I'll know. Go right to the 425!!!

go 416, they rev a lot quicker than the 425 and make similiar power, where talking to the decible. ull be happy with either one but its safer for the 416. u can still bore it again. with the 425 u either have to sleeve it to a 440 or start all over again. and as far as TC who has close to 50hp, his was also built by an engine builder. so dont expect to see numbers like his on yours just because its the same bore

The 416 will be more reliable and there's really not that much of a difference in HP numbers between the 2.

I rode a fully built TC 416 national kit motor, dude jacked up the cylinder and had to go to a 426, rode it again and could tell no difference in power. It was fast as a 416 and fast a 426 but after the 426 your lookin at lotso money to fix the motor since it's on it's last bore of the stock sleeve.

why would you recommend an overbore to a 425/426 when its not needed and for all intensive purposes will make the same power:confused:

I never rode a 416, and can only reccomend what I have experience with. Really, I wanted to go 440 but Tom reccomended the 425 kit for me for reliability and also since it is the biggest bore on the stock sleeve. I figured there would be a little increase in the 425 kit over the 416, but I didnt know. Its not like its THAT expensive to bore and sleeve a 440 kit anyway so I guess I just think differently. If the power is similar and you want to save another bore for the future then by all means get the 416, its whatever you want man...
