nothing wrong with my 04' unless you do alot of jumping get a frame brace and some aftermarket front shocks, and if yu do lots of big jumping get a chassis skid, i found out today from bottoming out at the track that the bottom of my chassis is now bare metal and rust :( so im going to make or buy a skid :) or i would wait for the 05' z400's, the 05's have front shocks with rezzies, aluminum bumper and grab bar, 8-9 clutch plates, 37mm carb, and magnesium engine covers :)

I have an '03 and the only things I've "heard" is that with hard use some frames have cracked in some places. Also, the rear stock axle is weak. Power is less then the current 450's that are available but that can be fixed with mods. It all depends on what you want to do with it but, a lot of people love the Z400. Including the person who's won every GNC MX race this year (someone correct me if I'm wrong) - Doug Gust.
I love my '03 and haven't cracked the frame yet and I do ride it pretty hard.
Thumbs up for the Z from me.

yes the 05's have new fron shocks with rezzies, magnesium engine covers, aluminum front bumper and grabbar, 8-9 clutch plates, and a new 37mm carb with throttle position sensor, i think when they come out and people start modding them im gonna grab a pair of them front rezzies and maybe a carb

Yeah, go with a 05 if you want a new z. If you are looking used, you can find some pretty good deals on them.

The 05's come with a 39mm carb, plus .025 thicker frame tubing.

The fender support brackets consist of thicker tubing.

The rear grab bar seems to appear almost an inch longer to protect the tail light.

The rear seat latch has a larger groove added to aid in keeping the seat secure.

There was some talk of the reverse rev limiter being removed.

Sounds like they're actually listening to the customer and making the necessary changes that we asked for!!! Granted the 400 might not be up to 450 power and standards....but they've addressed all of the other issues and keeping REVERSE and ELECTRIC start to boot!

It must be a typo because on suzuki's site it says 37.

I have also read about the 37mm BSR with TPS along with the revised camshafts and adjustable front shocks but, the frame thing sounds interesting... dump a little weight off of the engine and put it in a stronger frame, did they goto a aluminum Subframe or A-arms, a better swingarm with a Honda roundtube type of carrier for chain adjustments?

Other things:
Are both halves of the engine case made out of Magnesium?
Why didn't Suzuki use a seperate Clutch cover?

hey did the 2003 kfx 400s have all the same frame problems as the z400s had?

IT had all the same problems but the first '03 Z400's were the ones having the soft axle problems, supposedly fixed when the KFX's came out. I rolled my quad maybe 3 or 4 seperate occasions, one was enough to bend my steering stem, bend one rear wheel and the hub but not the axle... As for the frames, I have paint chipping off of my shock towers and around the oil tank as well. (paint chipping means flexing means not enough reinforcement, means if not fixed can develop into a crack)

The '04 models had a removeable rear grab bar and a single bolt chain adjustment.

The '05 seems like Suzuki is trying new things...
