my friend has a stock 400ex and he told me to ask if any of you guys had put a bigger front sprocket on your 400 and what size it was because he was looking to get some more speed out of it. he doesn't want to lose to much bottom end but if anyone knows anything please let me know. he is going to get an exhaust soon.

I dropped a tooth on my 400 for riding the dunes. More torque.

I rode my stock sprocket on the salt flats with my GPS on the handle bars. I hit 68.5 mph. That was with an extra gallon of gas strapped on the back. It took quit a strech of sand to get to that speed, i had to crouch. I have clocked my bike at 72 MPH, down hill, on a paved surface in Mexico (GPS). I'd say if you are going to add a tooth, better have some mods!

yeah if u go up a tooth on the front you will loose some bottem end, but with a few mods it wont be as bad. i droped a tooth front and back for more accelration.

You do know that dropping a tooth in the rear will add top end and lose acceleration? Or did you drop a tooth in the rear to sorta balance it out more, didn't want too much low end power?

Up one tooth from stock would be a 16. Its hard to run a case saver with a 16 though without some modification. Just go to like a 36 tooth rear man...
