I have both a 400ex and raptor. I work on the 400ex more than I work on the raptor so how is the honda more reliable? By the way I race the raptor in cross country and my dad races the 400ex.

ok here we go

raptor

--Rap'sare very very good bikes, the only thing you may not like about them is that they are a bit high, but you can always buy a lowering bracket and your problem will be solved there. they have reverse, which does add some extra weight(398 lbs. dry)

--as in the power aspect, they are powerful bikes but not all they are summed up to be, i can beat one on my 416, but it does take a bit to do, a stock 400 will not beat the raptor, but a done up 400 can beat a rap.

--reliability, these bikes are indeed reliable, for the comment i saw of them always breaking is NOT true. All bikes break and have there accidents. I know he wasn't speaking for all raps im just saying what i know from personal experience. a 400 can break jsut as easily as a raptor, and no matter what things will break on a bike, nothing you can do about it, unless oyu leave it in a glass box and never ride it.

--price.... 4000 for an 02...i think that 400 is ok, you may be able to get less if you bargain though:D

400 EX

--ok right off the back im going to say the 400 does indeed pack one heck of a punch, but like the rap, it still is not all it is summed up to be, one. you dont have reverse, but it lightens hte load a bit (378 lbs dry) but the 05 honda 400ex by my understanding is to have reverse since it is now not the leading race atv made by honda. the ride on the 400 is nice and mid mounted if you will and is very comfortable

-- power-- the 400 is a powerfulk bike, like i said it still could have more, the stock 400 is nice for a ride bike, like just doing local trails, but if you want to race ide recoment a few upgrades (full pipe, filter, ect...) with sme decent upgreades the 400 will beat a rap, but a stock one, be prepared to be in the dust.

--Reliability-- these bikes take a beating, and keep running, mine does just fine, but so does a raptor, so what i put fot the raptor im gunna put here...well not really jsut go read it again if you really want to.

--price- you can get a stock for maybe 3500-400 same as rap im guessing

___________________________

ok so all in all both bikes have ups and downs, it also depends on what you will be riding, how experienced you are, and physical AND mental ability, you may be ready physically, but comming out of a ride and being glued down to the seat is never fun, so you need to be ready for the bike,

so these are my OPINIONS not all facts but most are, this is all your decision, like i said both are good bikes and you wont be dissapointed

so good luck and i hope this helps

yeah but yammi does indeed make good bikes and a rap is one of them, juts because its a honda dosent mean chit, just liek if its a yammi, it dosent mean chit...

and someone tell me WHY they think the 400 is so much more reliabale than the rap...im jst curious

because hondas r built tougher, and yamahas r built to perform, like u said in ur essay above, right they both can break and have ups n downs, but overall from what ive seen hondas r built tougher, and yamahas r built to perform.

because im a yamaha kid id say go with the raptor...

i have a blaster, raptor 80 and raptor 350...all run perfect...on problem ive ever had was rear brakes on the blaster (notorious for bad brakes)...and the 80's shift lever gets a tad stuck here and there...nothing much

it all depends on how you ride it...thats what reliability sits on

I sold my 400ex for a raptor. The 400ex is an old-school quad unless you spice it up. It was fun to ride, but not nearly enough power. That's why I got the Raptor. I haven't had any problems with it that haven't been rider error. Now I am just looking to get it to handle better. This is my first Yamaha and its served its purpose and given me confidence in Yamahas. I would say that over 80% of the people that call them Craptors have never ridden one. Sometimes things just get a bad reputation through ignorance.
The raptor is a nice quad as is the 400. However, my next quad is the 450R.

Get the raptor. I have an 04 and i really like it, until i bought my 450r! I used to have a 400ex too and i'd take the raptor anyday over a 400.

I would get the raptor any day over the 400
The difference is night and day

I have a 04' raptor LE, 04 400 ex, and an '03 z400........
I'd rather ride the raptor, then the suzuki, then the honda. Just mt opinion. I like them all, but I'm a big guy and the raptor fits me best.... and as for dependability.... no problems with any of them.
