I got a hotcam stage 2 for my 400. I was wondering if anyone else has it, because I talked to C&D racing and they said that it will tick a little because of the cam. I have a Ross 11.1 High Compression piston (416 Kit). I was just wondering if anybody else's ticks alittle.

I have the 11.1 Ross piston and the Hotcam 2 and yes it does tick a little more than stock. Overall a good setup:D

i would say little more than stock but not much more. if you tighten your valves a bit it may get quieter.

I just got my 400EX back with a new hotcams stage 1 and complete engine rebuild. I thought that the builder screwed up my valves and they were ticking too much, but i never thought that it could be the cam. Do the valves have to be readjusted after break in??

i have a feeling the vavles need to be adjusted tighter. however, the stage 1 seems to make more racket than the stage 2.

What are the power ranges for each of these cams? I am thinking about picking one up for my brother. We ride woods/XC type terrain.

With 4 rocker arms and non-hydraulic lifters, I don't think ticking can be avoided. My Warrior with a Megacycle cam didn't tick as much as the Ex, but it only had 2 rockers.

Look at it this way:
When a bomb stops tickiing...that's when the trouble starts, so pray that it keeps ticking!

the stage 1 is good for all around power. you get good gains down low and up top. the stage 2 will mainly give you gains at higher rpms.

I also have the Stage 2 Hotcam and I thought my valves were ticking. I took all my plastics off and my tank and removed the valv covers only to find that everything was fine. No I didn't have to tighten my valves after break in either. The incrased lift of the cam causes the perceived excessive ticking. I think your bike is fine. Ride like hell and enjoy it.:macho

They tick because the reccomended valve clearance is around twice as much as stock. I just got my hot cam stage 2 yesterday, waiting on my JE piston and some other goodies... O YEA!

The instructions that came with my Hotcams Stage 2 said that the valve lash is exactly the same as stock. .004 and .005 My valves are adjusted to these specs and run great.;)

My Hotcams (stg 2) came with a little "update" piece of paper that had slight higher lash settings than stock. Looks like they updated their instructions. This was a seperate updated sheet done after the main instructions were printed. I'll try to remember to post those numbers when I get home this eve. I just got and installed the cam a couple months ago, so this is fairly recent...

The guy at C&D Racing reccomended 5 for the intake & 6 for the exhaust.....He told me that just about all aftermarket cams have a little rattle to them......I really don't think it is hurting anything, but it does sound kind of crappy........As far as performance goes, that is fine....

the stage 2 settings are .13 mm intake and .15 mm exhaust. this is approximately .005" intake and .006" exhaust.
