they samre thing happen with my 04 400ex a few weeks ago but u dont have ot take it back to the dealer me and my firends both did it alls u do i take a drill and a small drill bit and drill intil the center about 1/2 inch then get a little tap and hammer it into where u drilled and turn it liek u would if u were lossening it and it will come right out

better take it to somebody that knows what they are doing. it might come out easy but if you break a drill bit in the bolt or an extractor its gonna be a pain in the ***. i think the best way to do it is to drill it out slighty larger than the bolt and tap it. but you have to be careful and you have to be straight.

see if the dealer will do it for free...if they try to make you pay tell them to fux themselkves & find a friend or someone to help you..my 400ex did the same thing after I was tightening instead of loosening those oil filter cover bolts & it snapped inside..my friend got it out but I dont know how...right tighty left loosy :blah:

DId you take it to the Dealer yet? They may change their story when you bring it there. I did the same thing on my old 400ex, sounds like you just overtightened it, those oil covers do not need to be tightened soo hard.. This may not be covered, it really depends on the mood of the dealership and how busy they are.

If it broke while you were tightening it, it won't be hard to get out. Just get a real small piece of metal like a pic or a tiny allen wrench or screwdriver and you should be able to back it out by rotating it to the left. Take the filter cover off first. It is not in a bind or frose up. Should back right out.

If you would read in your owner's manual you would know that those bolts are supposed to be tightened to a certain torque. You can do it without a torque wrench just remember to tighten it snug not tight.

Missing the point here guys. From what `rider is saying , the bolt was previously stress-cracked. When he tried to tighten it , he finished it off. I had a foot-peg bolt do that. Easy-outs to the rescue.
