I have a 2001 400EX and I'm thinking about pcing the frame but if I do that the motor still looks old. I've heard of bead blasting but I don't know where to get it done locally. I live close to Baton Rouge in LA if anybody knows someone who does some kind of engine cleaning and about how much it would greatly appreciated.

First off get some s.o.s pads and scub it real good so you get all that grime outta there. Then sprasy a little clorox on a rag and rub in. and do another s.o.s pad and then wash off with hose

Simple Green works good for me. Safe for the Earth too.

While i'm doing my stroker i'm getting everything coated it will make it a lot easier to keep clean since the cases wonte be bare aluminum anymore. The trick is getting something that wont hold heat in. I'm using nic industries artic black.
Here are some pictures.

Use a good engine degreaser and some soap and water to get the motor looking nice. To keep it looking good you really should do this after every ride. Then spray the motor down with wd-40 and whip everything down. My cases had some wear marks so I taped them off and gave them a spray of gray paint that is very close. Looks like new now.

Gunk engine degreaser works very well. Use scotch bright and gunk, then spray it off. Use a plastic thin brush to get in the fins.

I use simple green to keep the frame looking new, and it works everytime. Then I spray down common rust prone spots with WD-40. It's too much work to keep these things clean!!!!

But I love the feeling of having the best looking quad around, then getting it muddy as hell, or riding the **** out of it.:D

I use simple green too! Non diluted! hehe. After its clean, I lightly spray the metal with wd-40, and take a dry rag, and wipe it clean. the wd-40 keeps rust, oxidation, and dirt off!
