I ordered a 416 10:8.1 JE piston from C&D along with a hotcame stg. 2 last week. I went in and talked to the guy that is going to be boring my cylinder, and he suggests that I get stiffer valve springs so my valves don't float. I am also getting a magnium rev limiter, so I will be getting and extra 1,000 rpms. My question is, do I need the aftermarket valve springs, and if I do, what kind should I be looking into??? Also, he said that he does a 3-angle vavle job, and I believe a 5-angle, which one is better? I'm pretty new to this internal motor stuff, so I am cerious. Any info would be great!!!

T&T Racing built my 416. They used stainless steel valves and springs. I didn't even ask what brand they were using, so I can't really help you out there. I would for sure go with the stainless steel valves and springs though. Just call around and see what springs builders recommend. I'm sure someone else will know.

You don't really need stiffer springs, hence the term DROP IN CAM. Drop it in and ride, no further mods needed.

Yeah get a drop in cam and call it a day. Re-grinds typically cost more and then you have to harden the rockers, typically do springs, etc. You can still get the vavle job if you like (I did) and get some porting done with the money saved from not doing the re-grind cam...

I would stick with the stock springs. The extra tension on the rockers is not a good idea since the plating on the wear pads is pretty thin. If you had a reground (hardened) cam and rockers, then I'd say go for it. You shouldn't be floating a valve if you're staying in the heart of this motor's power band, anyway. Shift.

The springs are not needed. However I would definately go for the 5 angle valve job.

Well I talked to Colby today and ordered them....but I Think I will be taking them off of order. After reading this, I am convinced that I don't need them. Thanks guys for all your help!

you don't have to change the springs with a stage 1.
