when u install a tapered carrier is the axle suppose to move a little??

hi i just bought a new tapered rad carrier and wen i instaleld it the axle just had a lil play in it..is it beacause of the tapered...also should i ride it then tighten the lock nutu a lil more...

definitly ride it then tighten it. there should not be any play in the axle when you do get it tight.
