I dont think thats true, but I heard that you have to redo them quite often.... my friend has had hsi new 03' since about last fall, and has a lot of time on it, and it runs perfect still... The guy that I bought my engine from said he put a new piston, or atleast rings in it, like every 20 hours or sumthin...

the piston is so thin and like a pancake with such high compression that it dosent last nearly as long as the piston out of say a 300ex. so yes they do have to be rebuilt more often.;)

There are no real piston problems with CRF450s. It is the titanium valves that wear out and should be replaced every 100 hours per Honda. Most guys are replacing them with stainless valves and replacing the piston while the head is off. Some people have gotten 300 plus hours out of the valves without any problems. Just keep the airfilter clean. Go hunt around www.thumpertalk.com in the CRF450 section for more info.
