After about 20 hrs of use my teammate's subframe on his 450R broke at the seat mount. We took it off and had it warranted by the local dealer. This was about 2 months ago. This afternoon a Honda warranty rep called me to see how it broke, when we noticed it,what kind of riding we do,ect. He told me there has been only one other reported case and this was on a MX quad( ours are XC). I was just wondering if anybody else has broken one or even heard of a broken one. Ours was not broken by a crash,it broke without a mark on it.

They replaced no questions asked, they wanted to know why to prevent future failures.

Mines never left the ground so I won't worry about it too much until it does.

I've got an update on the subframe failures. After the local XC race on Sunday we cleaned up both 450Rs only to find both subframes cracked in the same place the first one broke, right at the seat latch. These bikes have never been jumped hard or hit in the rear. Has anyone else had a problem yet? Check the welds at the ends of the bar for the seat latch.I'm starting to think we got a pair of lemon subframes.:(

That sucks, both are broke. How well did you guys finish? Thanks again for the steering stem.

I got second overall and Donnie got fourth after loosing his teather switch(he would have got me if not for that). 450Rs were the top four quads. Kurt McGill won the overall and my buddy Rodger got fourth.:D

Just about all subframes will break/bend over time. I have seen 250Rs, Z's, EXs, YFZs and now 450Rs bend. I think it is just a thing we are going to have to live with.

The first one broke in what I feel to be a very short time. The second and third cracked just a few months later. Ours seem to be the only ones out of 15 or so I see regularly every weekend . I just find it odd we're the only two having problems. I know things are going to break, but this seems a little to soon. Rebuilding the top-end every 30 hrs. is bad enough without changing a subframe with it.

i'd actually like to see someone come out with a steel sub-frame for the R. i know its heavier but i'd trade the weight for the strength

BBB,

Any update on the subframes? Mine shows no signs of problems - 6 xc races so far.

Still just cracked but getting worse. I'm going to give Honda a few more days then I'm going to have them welded. Mines tore down right now anyways, doing a bit of upgrading during the break.:D
