I am in the process of rejetting my 02 400ex it has a white bros e series slip on, k n air filter, and a curtis sparks advance timing key. I changed the main jet from the stock 148 to a 152. I still notice about the same amount of backfiring that I did with the stock 148. What else should I do to make it run better? Should I adjust the air/fuel screw? Should I drop the needle? I haven't done anything to either of them so far.
thanks for the help

The engine backfires when I'm comming down a big hill in 3rd gear the worst (I haven't done it in 4th or 5th yet) I get into third gear and get on it then completely let off the throttle and let it coast that's when it backfires. I moved the clip down one position on the needle and it still backfires about the same amount as it did before I moved the needle.
What should I do now?

buy a 42 pilot jet and turn the fuel screw out about 3 turns from lightly seated. this should help your problem.

And while your at it, remove your choke. That should take care of your backfiring/cold starting blues
