hey guys im looking for a new quad and i cam across the raptor and 250r. if i was to get a r i would build it myself from frame up. are they good all around machines? whats pro's and con's about them? would you recomend i get one for all aorund riding but mostly trails. are they reliable? do they brake a lot? do they require a lot of maintance?

I would DEFENTLY get a R over the raptor. But the raptor would be better if all you are going to do it trails, because its a 4 stroke, and it has reverse, but the 250r has WAY better handling. If you went threw the hole bike, and built it from the ground up, not even putting like aftermarket parts on it, just stock ones that are in perfect condition, and replace all the bearing, and what not. and make shure the top end is ok. I think i would choose that. Have you rode either of them yet?

no i have not riden them yet and i cant. no one has them around hear for me to ride. and if i do build the r it is not going to be all stock.if i build the frame stock then the motor might be a 310-330 and if i build the motor stock then the frame will have +3+1 a arms, +4 lsr axle, skid plates, full bores, and bumpers grab bar and nerfs. so what do u think

If your planning on trail riding, I would not put +3 on it. If your looking for a r I have one for sale. It is an 88 with some aftermarket accessories. It is set up for woods. It needs some motor work and a new swingarm.asking 2500 obo. I would take a built r over a raptor anyday. If the r motor is stock then the raptor is faster but braking and handling on a stock r is better than a stock raptor. heres minehttp://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid116/p360a9835c841241657e964fe497faa54/f8adb365.jpg

 We all know whos was running after last weekend.

For straight trails, go Raptor. Less maintance and easier to ride. As for breaking, ask wwclea whos breaks more! :muscle:

go with the R! i own two of them myself and love them. once you ride a raptor and them get on an R, you will know what i mean.

I would go with the R. The raptor might be a little rider friendly on the trails being a 4-stroke but if you know what your doing the r is just as good / better . As for speed I ran my buddy on his craptor on a paved road and I wasn't impressed at all.The engine on my R is basically stock with the exception of a pipe

An R is by far better.... but we all know it ...they are going down hill because of the new fourstrokes.....so save your money and build up a 450r ....... they would be awesome with some suspension!
