Here is a link to thumper racing that you can check out for yourself.
www.thumper-racing.net
They are located in East Texas and have a good reputation for building strong yet very reliable kits for both the 400ex and z-400. Most of there work is done on dirt bikes but they have years of experience with both of these motors. Dirtwheels mag had a shootout between a 440ex and z440 that Thumper built back in an '03 article. With the other mods listed you should have a very fast bike.

I don't have a Thumper 440 kit but I have the Wiseco 440 and so far it's been great. I love riding my Z the only problem I have with mine is that I have stock suspension.:( The one thing you might want to watch for on the frame is for cracks. Especially above the front shock mounts and next to the lower a-arms.

Some people have had overheating problems with the thumper kit and other kits. Unless its a really good deal I would possibly search some more.

Do you know the guy selling ? If so that would help Just be careful. Check it over real good.

I had a pimped out Z450 stroker and had no problems with it just wanted to move on to the 450r.

I wouldn't pay $5800 for a tricked out 2003 Z400. You can buy a used one in near mint condition and do the same work to it and probably come out near that price...but know exactly who beat on it and how long it was ridden. I like having the work done by people I trust rather than a friend of a friend or whatever.

You wont need race gas but if you know them so good why dont you ask him?

5800 seems high too. thing better be pimped for that much.

My dad has a Thumper Racing 420 kit in his z and it has held up great. They do excellent work. I'd say if the price is right then go for it. Just make sure the frame has been gusseted and you shouldn't have a problem.

420 kit? How much hp does that put out?

I would ask him to lower the price a bit and find out why he is selling. Don't want to buy a quad that will break on your first ride.

I dont know the exact hp numbers but I do know that it was like night and day from stock. It added great low end but I do know one thing they charge an arm and a leg for engine work. the only reason we went with them is because they are only 30 min away from home.

Yeah, ask him what matinence he has done on it, if it has had a tune up, and look and the general quality of it. I mean, if you have the cash, and everything looks and feels right, I would go with for it.

It seems like that it is a pretty trick quad, and it will probably sell fast.
