what is the best all around tire?

for me i would have to go with the klaws. i just got a full set of them and i love them. i had razrs but i didnt think they hooked up well all they seemed to do was spin when i didnt want them to but the kendas hook up great.

I don't have a set of Razr's but the quads I have ridden with them seem to have pretty good hook up and they seem to be an awsome tire, I plan to buy some when I need new tires, but till then the stockers will do...

I've never owed or ridin on either so take this for what you will, I really like the raZr 2's and the holeshot HD's

They both seem aggressive, Good side tread, heavy ply rating.
Just My Opinion

Get the razrs. Ya holeshots hook up great, but they wear out to fast IMO. All the razrs I have road hook up awsome, if not better, and don't wear out that fast.

I have these on my EX and do NOT like them. they may be alright in sand or soft ground but on hard pack they just aren't that good. they wear really fast and have no side bite. going around corners on hard ground is like riding on ice. I have never seen a tire that makes the backend want to pass the front as much as fast trekkers.

imo i think turfs are one of the best, they are cheap, they last long, offer great traction and u can groove(sp) them to how ever u want

I've owned Maxxis, Holeshots, and Turf's..but not Kenda's

As far as best tire i have to say Maxxis, they hook up good but they can still slide, and they are the slowest wearing tire i have ever had.

Holeshots seemed like the would slide too much for me? and they wear down WAY to fast..

I owned 2 sets of Tamers and both got punctured on the side wall, and i just didn't like the feel of the tire...

my .02 cents

i love my holeshot mxr's they hook up good on the mx tracks and for arenacross im using groved turf tamers. i dont think turf tamers hook up that well on the mx tracks around here because there is too much sand and loose stuff. holeshots do wear down quick.

I have MX Klaws all around and love'm. The fronts really hold the ground way better than my stock ones. I also got them all 2 inches down from stock to lower the center of gravity and take turns much better .I can do a 180 degree turn in one spot without the front brake.(But each wheel is extended out 2 inches too though).

The rears hook up real well too and I have no problems sliding. Swap the rear tires for hard pack or soft terrain.

the new holeshot MXR4 has a new rubber compound and will NOT wear out as fast as it did but still hooks up as good as it all ways did and MXR4 is what digger used to win the title :D

I agree. I haven't tried too many tire brands but my Kenda Knarly are 100 times better than my wife's Holeshots. The quality just isn't there with the Holeshots.

My favorite tires are always the ones that dont need plugs all the time or wear too fast. For me, It's 6ply or go home. I usually ride Razor's, but I just got some 6ply holeshots and we will see how they stack up. Reaper

I used Kenda mx's 18 inch in Hillclimb competition and they hooked up great. Most of the guys swear by stock 400ex tires,go figure?

For an all around tire I have to go with the Claws because you can turn them around for mud. They are the only tire that will work in all terrain types so the only choice for all around.

kenda may be good but i couldnt drive on such an ugly tire. IMO it looks like a stocker.

Razrs are good..

Do front holeshots wear fast too, since there not spinning all the time it would be less, right??

Wasn't the question best all around tire?

Razor tires are hard pack only, Razor2 tires are intemediate to soft pack only. Most of the Holes shot tires that I have used balled up pretty bad in the mud. So again I am not saying the Klaws are the best in every situation although IMO they are close, but if you can only have 1 tire it almost has to be the Klaws. I was flat out amased at how well they worked in the mud when flipped around and I love the amount of side bite they give. The Holeshot's seam to me to make the rear end step out under braking and in the woods that is not the E-ticket.
Now if I were racing again and did not have a sponcer I would have a trailer full of tires and run what ever worked the best in the situation of the day. Forget brand loyalty and looks ride what works.

I like my holeshots alot i find they hook up sweet in any type of terrain like mud, snow, sand, clay, gravel, or dirt and they give me lots of traction and my t-9s help alot with weight 2.

Thats not completely true, I have had razr's in the past, and they work well on hard pack, but they also have DECENT traction in many other areas, they are not just limited to hardpack.:D

daimon1054
07-14-2004, 08:14 PM
Well then you better tell Maxxis that because if you call them they will tell you what the tire was made for. Of course I'm sure you know better than they do I mean they only made the freaken things right?

XCAdam89
07-14-2004, 08:19 PM
I am just saying that even though it was designed for harpack, how many people used it for xc before the razr 2 and other tires came out?

daimon1054
07-14-2004, 09:39 PM
Not many that was why the 2's, same for hole shots people were using them because they were better than what we had but were not great so the market drove a change. Ever try and finish a race with turf tamers without a flat:grr: I think ant antena would puncture them but when they were groved right they were hard to beat.
