I would get the cannibal man...... They are fast on their own, but for serious racing I would get the moto or blaze 440 mapping for it, and hook the chassis up with some better shocks and arms down the line.... The bike is great, my friend used to have one that he raced MX with with the moto 440 mapping, Houser arms, and Elka shocks and that thing was scary fast!! Of course you would be setting it up for XC, but you definitely want a 4 stroke for the woods, and plus thats a space age motor!! Parts are readily available for them still contrary to what alot of people think, from ATK, or south bay moto and a few others, so dont worry about that.... DEFINITELY look into getting it re-mapped like I said though because it really does make it much much more aggressive since that is Cannondale's base model.

this may sound like a stupid question but what exactly is mapping? How much does it cost? Thanks

mapping is what you do for fuel injection. Just like you setup the carb, jetting, and ignition on a regular quad, on that, all the info is put in by computer....the power curve, all that. You pretty much "program" the motor. Im not sure how much it costs, Id have to ask my buddy but you can call up south bay moto and Im sure they can point you in the right direction. Mapping changes the entire characteristics of the motor. Check out cannondaleriders.com or one of the 'dale sites to see if anyone said anything about it in their foirums because I know its a very popular thing to do.....

i would go with the cannibal man. and like TC426ex said, get it remapped, some susp upgrades and you got yourself a sweet quad. 2 strokes just aint the best for the woods in my opinon but i think you'd like the cannible for the woods.

Cannondales and ATK's are awesome! I will never go back to 250R's. All I did to mine to set it up for XC is Elka shocks, Hiper wheels, Kenda tires, Tag bars and HMF exhaust. Blaze mapping is best for XC.

Be careful on what cannondale you get. Mine costed around 1500 just to do 3 updates so then i went with a 450. If you get one always check the bolts sometimes they rattle loose.

Take a look at www.cannondaler.com and www.cannondaleriders.com. You'll find all the specifics and technical stuff you need to know about cannondales. A 4 stroke is definitely easier to ride in the woods. Although a 2 stroke is a lot of fun to ride.

I would go with the 250R and set it up for the woods. Honda all the way man.

What are these problems. I didn't know cannondales had any problems. Should I be worried about mine?

well besides getting various cracks in the frame,he had his fuel pump go out twice,he lost spark on several occassions,,lost compression, had battery die for no reason on several occasions, had battery not charging before, and couldnt get it to start reliably on cold mornings.thiese are just the things i reme ber.he like it because he races gncc's,he loved the torque but too many DNFs

They are also well known for being rather high maintnance. Theres alot of internal parts that Cannondale/ATK still can't figure out how to make last or be reliable. Hop over to one of the cannondale sites. You'll see what we mean. They're great quads and WAY ahead of their time, but are not for the "just get on it and ride" kinda guy.

How often was this person going over his quad to make sure all everything was tight and in working condition? The battery thing sounds like the yfz problems. How much worse is it to start in cold weather than the 400ex? I know when I had my 400ex, I had to go over everything to make sure it was tight or working right after before each race.

I agree about them being a little high maintenance. They're race quads. They weren't designed to be a quad for a "just get on it and ride" guy. I thought when they first came out they were the only company giving factory backing and sponsorship b/c they were pushing for racing.
