A Gavilan Hills businessman shot Saturday by an off-duty Orange County sheriff's deputy said Tuesday afternoon that he was wounded after two other men on horses tried to lasso him in Good Hope.
Orange County Deputy David Loiza, 42, shot Carlo Terzian, 39, at about 8 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of Olive Street and Hidden Valley Road, according to Riverside County sheriff's spokesman Cpl. Dennis Gutierrez. Terzian was taken to Riverside County Regional Medical Center in Moreno Valley for treatment and released Sunday night.
Terzian, a father of two and co-owner of Alltra Fresh Cleaning Specialists Inc., said he was riding his Yamaha all-terrain vehicle with family members and friends when he was shot through his upper-left abdomen.

According to initial reports, an argument had led to the shooting.
"There was no argument, not with me," said Terzian. "I was the last guy, and all the sudden, I'm getting treated like a cow."
Loiza could not be reached Tuesday for comment.
Orange County sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino said Loiza was put on an automatic three-day paid administrative leave and is scheduled to return to work today. The investigation is being led by the Riverside County sheriff's Central Homicide Unit.
"It happened in their jurisdiction so they're the lead investigative agency," Amormino said.
Terzian said he was following his friends home when he approached a white truck that was blocking access to Olive Street. As he tried to drive around it, Terzian said, two men on horses with ropes began chasing him. Terzian said one of the men lassoed his nephew Juan Vasquez and whipped him.
"He's got lash marks on his back," said Terzian's neighbor Oskar Kristjansson, 30, who was riding in front. "I've never seen anything like this."
The gunfire came from a third man, Loiza, who Terzian said was on foot. Authorities said Monday that Loiza had been looking for his horse.
Meanwhile, Terzian's wife, Elidia, who co-owns the family's carpet-cleaning and emergency water-damage business, suffered a black eye and scratches to her forehead. She said she blacked out as she tried to approach her husband.
"I don't remember, but something happened where I was either punched or pushed to the ground," said Elidia Terzian, who was treated Sunday at Riverside Community Hospital and released.
