Can anyone recommend an easy pull clutch lever? I don't want to spend the money on a hydraulic clutch, but is there anything with an easier pull than stock?

The PEP EZ Pull Clutch Lever would be Good.

The sunline billet perch and lever are great and it only cost 40 bux, it has a oring to keep the dirt out.

I luv it

03-23-2002, 05:06 PM
as far as mechanical ones go,works connection and pep, id still go wit a magura hydrolic.

Try oiling your cable with cable lube every few rides. Most of the time this is all that needs to be done or put on a new cable every year, the inside liner wear out and causes the drag sometimes.

Thanks for the info guys.

ChadEXer said Marcum`s got a New Clutch Lever Setup that is really Good. I forget the Name of it. You will have to ask Chad.

the RTC is really nice about 80 bucks

Dave400ex
03-24-2002, 06:04 PM
Where can I find Info on the RTC?

03-24-2002, 06:08 PM
Check out the October 2001 ATVSport. They have a clutch lever shootout which should tell you exactly what you want to know. The Works Connection Pro Perch easilly won as far at the regular cable-based levers go. I just bought one from Works for $125 and while I have not installed it as of yet, the build quality is absoloutely first rate.

Dave400ex
03-24-2002, 06:13 PM
What makes the Works so much better? It should be Good if they want $125 for it.

I got the FLY lever from Marcum's...

Pretty tough to beat for the money ($25 I think it was) has a rubber boot that covers the opening between the perch/lever keeing dirt and the like off the cable.. Has a large "adjust on the fly" knob..

The only complaint I have is the inside diameter of the lever where the cable slide in was about 1/32 of an inch bigger than the end of the cable allowing it to cock off slightly.. A couple wraps of tape around the end mad it a nice snug fit..

If figure it's not a matter of if it will break, but when, and I'd just as soon break a $25 one as a $125 one :D

I wast just at Pompton Honda and they have cannibals there now. Cannibals come with magura hydraulic levers. The pull isn't much easier than other levers it just feels smoother. The best cable based perch is definatley the works connection.

Who Sells the Works Connection?

quadfamily
03-24-2002, 10:25 PM
I have the Moose adjust on the fly lever on two of our bikes. The Moose is a copy of the Works Connection and has all the same features like needle bearings, teflon mounting bushing, rubber dust/dirt boot, easy pull, adjust-on-the-fly, looks the same and it only costs around $45. I have no complaints at all about ours, they're really nice.

Honda Guy
03-24-2002, 10:30 PM
I got the PEP and like it alot

03-24-2002, 10:32 PM
I just got the Fly lever, and it's pretty good. It's all CNC machined mounting bracket, an nice big adjuster, and it looks identical to the works connection but 30 dollars cheaper. Leo must have got a deal because I paid $100 for mine.

max400EX
03-24-2002, 11:10 PM
Leo and I have the "quick adjust".. you have the "quick adjust with a bearing and machined mount" or the "EZ pull"

I just switched over to the Works Connection. It was a bit pricey, but have yet to get a ride in on it. THis weekend will be the real test. Hope it is all it is cracked up to be....

Here is the new AVS lever that Terry sales. Go to www.asv-usa.com to read more about it. It costs $75

oynot400
03-25-2002, 08:14 AM
I have the Fly lever and really like it. It is a twin to the FMF 909 but about $50 cheaper. Leo must of got a deal because I paid $40 for mine.
Personally I would stay away fromt he MSR Raptor. It chewed up 2 of my cables in no time! That and I think they are cheaper made.
Just my opinion...

Dave400ex
03-25-2002, 08:27 AM
Chad, Are you getting that Lever? It looks Sweet.

400exRacerX
03-25-2002, 08:29 AM
I have the PEP ez pull lever and I love it. All you need is a cable luber and your set. I believe it costed me $35 from Nac's.

03-25-2002, 10:09 AM
Go to www.worksconnection.com

Dave400ex
03-25-2002, 04:03 PM
I like the Works Connection and the AVS Lever the Best. I will most likely just get the PEP though.

ChadEXer
03-25-2002, 04:48 PM
I prolly will get that ASV. i havent decided yet!

Dave400ex
03-25-2002, 05:20 PM
I would get the ASV or the Works Connection. Ask Terry which one he thinks is the Best.

ChadEXer
03-26-2002, 08:26 AM
I will. I need to here pretty soon because i still havent got one. Im still waiting on that guy at Fullbore to email me back. I called him last night and he never called me because i didnt send him my resume. i forgot to attach it. he said he will let me know what he can do for me today!! I just sold my factory plastic too!!

Dave400ex
03-26-2002, 08:37 AM
I want to know what Terry says. You don`t have that Fullbore thing figured out yet? Lets hope you can get a Deal. If not, you already have the Stock Plastic Money to go towards some Red Fullbore.

ChadEXer
03-26-2002, 08:57 AM
Come on Warriorman help me out. Red or White??? Everybody has red thats why I was thinking white. Red and black chassis with white plastic and red\black graphics on it. What ya think???

03-26-2002, 08:58 AM
You can get a better price on the works lever&perch from dirtdeals.com. I bought mine for 109.00 ..... thats if you wanna save a few. Probably the best 100.00 bucks I have spent on something that I have no complaints about. Installation is straight forward...no modding needed, on the fly adjustments, quality cnc, and very good operation...no freying the cable.

Dave400ex
03-26-2002, 09:09 AM
Chad, I would go with Red or Black. I just don`t think White would look very Good with Red and Black. Then Red and Black on White Plastic? I would get Red. Your 505 will be Different Enough.

Thank You Buck. That Lever sounds Sweet. Does anyone have a Picture of the Works Connection?

ChadEXer
03-26-2002, 10:27 AM
If I stay red then I would just keep the stock plastic(brand new)I have now with the Factory Effex graphics kit on it.
My mechanic has white FUllbore on his R and i like it!
Look at the post "my winter project finnally done" he has white plastic. Tell me what you think

Dave400ex
03-26-2002, 11:38 AM
I just saw that Picture. It looks ok, but I don`t think the Red Graphics look very good on there. I don`t think White and Red/Black go together very Well. You could just get that Clear Plastic. It`s up to You.

MOOCAZEN
03-26-2002, 12:01 PM
THE ASV LEVER AND PERCH, REMEMEBR , THE ASV IS NOT QUICK ADJ, ONLY THE WORKS IS, OUT OF THE THE 2 THAT IS, THERES ANOTHER BRAND OBERG SPORTS COST 119.95 SWEET THOUGH, WAY BETTER THAN THE WORKS CONNECTION

kaneman23
03-26-2002, 12:27 PM
Anyone have the RTC? I just ordered one and wanted to know who else had them. I didn't like the looks of the ASV and the Works and 909 are more then I wanted to pay.

Dave400ex
03-26-2002, 12:36 PM
MOOCAZEN, Who Sells the OBERG Sports Lever?

Kaneman23, Where can I check out the RTC and how much is it?

Thanks Moocazen.

kaneman23
03-26-2002, 01:55 PM
I ordered the RTC from Hetricks for around $55.00. I think they may have a pic of them on the website. I was either going to get the factory 909 or the RTC and I decided to get the RTC because it was $35.00 cheaper.

Dave400ex

Why does everyone want the chlutch levers that are over $100? Are they really that much better than a PEP that sells for about $30. The Pep is a moddified cr and I really like it.

Dave400ex
03-26-2002, 04:36 PM
HondaGuy, I am with You a little. The ones over $100 are the Best and some Guys want the Best. I think I will get the PEP when I get a New Lever.

03-27-2002, 07:57 AM
No I dont. this sucks. Everybody has a different opinion on the colors and I cant make up my own damned mind. i need to hurry because i need to get the plastic ordered. i think ive decided to just buy a set of Shiny Maier from Terry!! What color do i go with. i want to be different Here are the plastic colors
White
Black
Silver
Blue
Yellow
Red
orange
Then what color frame, a-arms, swingarm etc???????

MOOCAZEN
03-27-2002, 08:23 AM
DONT GET BLACK THATS WHAT IM GETTING:D , AS FOR THE LEVER JUST GET THE ASV LEVER OR THE WORKS , I DONT KNOW, I GOT THE ASV, IT LOOKS NICE BUT I STILL HAVENT TRIED IT OUT, REMEMBER THERES NO QUICK ADJUSTMENT ON IT

03-27-2002, 09:57 AM
just wondering... do you have a digital photo of your qaud or anyones else's... cause you take that and open the pic in paint under your start menu and add those colors to it to see what you like.

I've never seen a silver 400, that might look sweet. Is the silver about the same color as the Cannondale Speed? Here's a suggestion, go w/ the silver plastic & anodized red frame, a-arms, swingarm, etc. This would look cool if the silver plastic is darker in color (I'm thinking of a color scheme like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers uniforms). Also, there are too many red & yellow 400's already. so I would stay away from those colors.

ChadEXer
03-27-2002, 10:05 AM
I have been leaning towards white plastic with Factory Effex Graphics with black w\ sparkles frame and subframe, and a-arms swingarm and everything else red w\ sparkles
Dont know though!!

03-27-2002, 12:25 PM
Several months ago there was a Raptor in Dirt Wheels that had some gold-plated parts on it. Maybe you should show that quad up & get the frame & everything gold plated. :D :macho

I have a PEP and at first I wasnt impressed with it so I took a WD40 can and held the end of the cable up and sprayed some in the end and move it back and forth and since then it has worked like a charm. Now the cable is fraying though so I would watch out for PEPs I will get a Magura next or buy a terminator cable. If I am going to spend around a 120 for a clutch lever why not spend another 100 and get the best.

Dave400ex
03-27-2002, 04:57 PM
I like this Setup. Red Frame, Chrome SubFrame, Gray Hammertone Bottom Arms, Chrome Top Arms, Chrome Steering Stem, Gray Hammertone Swingarm, Dark Blue Plastic with Nac`s Graphics and Seat Cover. Now that would Look Sweet.

You could also do a Duncan Setup. Red Frame, Chrome SubFrame, Red Bottom Arms, Chrome Top Arms, Chrome Steering Stem, Red Swingarm, Yellow Plastic, and some Kind of Graphics.

You could do this Setup too. Yellow Frame, Chrome SubFrame, Yellow Bottom Arms, Chrome Top Arms, Chrome Steering Stem, Yellow Swingarm, Red Plastic, and some Graphics.

There. Let me know if you Want anymore Setups.

ChadEXer
03-28-2002, 08:37 AM
I should have had some of my stuff chromed. Chroming is just so expensive and i like the sparkles look so thats what i will probably do. Then with the billet dress up items it should look OK
Warriorman,,Fullbore finally called me at like 9pm last night!!, Grant at Fullbore said he WILL work some kind of deal with me. He said he is kind of full for sponsorship this year but he will see what he can do for me. He said If I havent heard from him in 2 weeks to call him back!! Ill prolly just go ahead and get some of that Maier from Terry and if they sponsor me Ill just have 2 sets!!

kaneman23
03-28-2002, 01:32 PM
I got the RTC on today and it works great. It took a few minutes to get it adjusted but the clutch pull is much lighter and crisp...

ChadEXer
03-28-2002, 01:47 PM
I think I will try those ASV levers from Marcums. I will let you guys know what their like

Dave400ex
03-28-2002, 05:54 PM
Yeah Chroming is very Expensive, but it looks Good.

That is a Good Idea on the Fullbore and Maier Plastic. What Setup are you going to do on the Powdercoat and Plastic?

That Clutch Lever should be Nice.

THE ASV LEVER SUCKS, I WENT RIDING YESTERDAY, DID 4 SETS IF 4 LAPS ON A 1/4 MILE TRACK, ALL WHOOPS, ILL TELL YOU THIS MUCH, BY THE SECOND LAP THE CLUTCH LEVER WAS TOO HARD, REMEMBER ITS NOT AN EASY PULL CLUTCH, DONT GET CHADEXER, TAKE FORM ME , IM ALWAYS CHANGING PARTS AND TRYING THEM, ILL HAVE PICS UP OF MY NEWLY REMODELLED BIKE, JUST GOT MY SHOCK BACK FRONT AND REAR REVALVED, CHANGED TO DIFFERENT SPRINGS, ILL POST PICS OF BEFORE AND AFTER

86GN
03-29-2002, 08:21 AM
I have an MSR Raptor and I like it. Remember to change your cable once in a while(its doesn't cost much) they wear out and lube just makes a mess and may contribute to dirt and gunk buildup.

MOOCAZEN
03-29-2002, 08:28 AM
86GN DO U THINK IT WILL RELIEVE THE PULL THEN, ITS KIND OF HARD, ALL I KNOW AFTER THE THIRD LAP OF EACH SET OR EVEN SECOND, I COULDNT EVEN SQUEEZE THE LEVER

400MXer
03-29-2002, 10:04 AM
VegasEx'r - i've ridden that quad. the owner is Quin Micheal, he lives in michigan...and he was at a local track and he let me ride it!!!! was pretty nice. And it's not all show....it's got a lot of go too!

Does Fullbore make silver plastic? i think that would be sweet, silver plastic and a blue frame and a arms and swingarm.

I would love to get some silver fullbore plastic for mine. if they make it, i might get some after this season, then i'll have black frame, a arms, swingarm, and silver fullbore plastic.

Dave400ex
03-29-2002, 10:21 AM
Chad, The Setup in your Sig. sounds Good. From what Moocazen said I would get a different Lever. I would try the Works.

MOOCAZEN, What did you ever do with the Houser and Axis Shocks?

400MXer, That Raptor is Sweet. I have some Pictures of it from Orrville last year. He had it on Display.

Chad said Fullbore did make Silver Plastic. He has talked to Fullbore a lot so I`m sure they do. Silver would look good with your Frame, A-Arms, and Swingarm. It is Expensive though.

MOOCAZEN
03-29-2002, 10:27 AM
HAVE THEM, IM WAITING FOR A FRIEND TO TELL ME IF HE WANTS TO SELL HIS LOBO FRONT END, I JUST GOT BACK ALL THE SHOCKS REVALVED, FRONT AN DBACK, RODE IT YESTERDAY, WHAT A DIFFERENCE

Dave400ex
03-29-2002, 10:35 AM
Do you have any Pictures of the A-Arms and Shocks?

kaneman23
03-29-2002, 10:36 AM
GET the RTC, its sweet. The only thing I don't like is that it doesn't have the rubber boot like the works and 909. The clutch pull is so much lighter and crisp cpmpared to stock. I was going to go with the ASV or the 909 but I didn't like the how the ASV looked. The ASV looks fragile in those pics to me. I didn't like the bronze color of the 909 and didn't want to pay $90 bones for a lever. RTC is a good bang for the buck and has grooves which feel great well.

Dave400ex
03-29-2002, 10:39 AM
Kaneman23, How Much and Where can I get a RTC? I am just looking Right now. I want to get Rid of the Parking Brake. Do you have any Pictures?

kaneman23
03-29-2002, 12:23 PM
I ordered mine from Hetricks for 59.00 and also got the WB brake block off assembly. I just put it on yesterday and I don't have pics... sorry, do a search on google.com for RTC clutch perches and you should find a few places that sell them and pictures as well. Later,
Justin

Oh, I also put the 14 t sprocket on as well. 14T is a cheap and awesome mod to gain some bottomend....

Dave400ex
03-29-2002, 12:25 PM
Thanks Kaneman. I will Check it Out.

400MXer
03-29-2002, 03:33 PM
Baldwin Sells RTC levers too...i'm gonna get one when i pay for my shocks.

ChadEXer
03-29-2002, 05:55 PM
Actually im not sure if Fullbore makes silver. Somebody told me they do but I never asked Grant when I was talking to him. He said they will start stocking the clear plastic though. he said there has been a demand for it!!

Dave400ex
03-29-2002, 08:11 PM
400MXer, Let me know how you Like the RTC Lever.

Chad, I thought you said Fullbore told you they were making Silver Plastic. Oh well. The Clear Plastic is Sweet, but I wouldn`t want that Plastic to Race with.

Evan
03-29-2002, 09:30 PM
Does anyone have pics of these levers on their quads, especially the RTC. I am looking for a shorty style lever. I had a shorty MSR and loved it, never frayed a cable. Now I have a PEP and frayed my cable today after having it for 2-3 months, just when it was working great b/c I lubed the cable and it was awesome, had to slide it in a ways b/c I only like to use 2 fingers to pull in the clutch. I am debating whether to buy another cable and see how long it lasts, or buy another lever and cable, or just get the MAGURA and be done with it and never replace another cable. What do yall think? Remember Shorty, easy pull.

stevengates45
03-29-2002, 10:41 PM
i say screw a clutch lever. in my opinion its a waste of money. you already have one on your quad so use it. its not gonna make any difference really

Dave400ex
03-30-2002, 09:13 AM
X-Rider, I would try using the PEP again and see what Happens. If the Cable frays again get the RTC or just keep Saving and get the Magura.

400MXer
03-30-2002, 10:07 AM
WarriorMan - i'll tell ya how i like it, and i'll take some pics of it too. and show you X-rider....but you'll have to wait because my shocks aren't done yet and i'm gonna get one when i pay for my shocks.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make silver fullbore plastic. It looks sooooo awsome....i would love that soooo much.

Dave400ex
03-30-2002, 10:13 AM
Thanks 400MXer. I am in no Hurry. I just want to get Rid of the Parking Brake Stuff. I would think them Shocks are about Done.

You should Call a Fullbore Dealer and Ask. I saw some Silver Plastic in the New Dirtwheels. I think it was Maier though. It looked Good.

400MXer
03-30-2002, 10:19 AM
I'll call baldwin this week sometime to check up on my shocks...i'd think that they are about done.

I'm not ready to buy plastic yet....i need to make some money....next winter i'm gonna get all new plastic, frame welded gusseted and powdercoated, and a swingarm hopefully.

Dave400ex
03-30-2002, 10:48 AM
Yeah Baldwin is a little Slow oh Shocks, but if I got PEP`s, I would get them from Him. Tell Mark to Hurry Up. LOL.

It will be really Cool next Winter. You will have to Check on the Silver Plastic though. Who are you going to have Gusset your Frame?

400MXer
03-30-2002, 11:27 AM
I'm not sure yet....but JB racing does gusseting and powdercoating for pretty cheap....so i might have them do it.

have you heard of them....baldwin sells their parts.

Dave400ex
03-30-2002, 11:38 AM
JB Racing? Yeah I have heard of them. Baldwin Sells their A-Arms and Swingarms. How much is their Gusseting?

400MXer
03-30-2002, 11:41 AM
I'm not sure if this is right....i heard it from some guy at the honda dealer, but he was saying, to weld/gusset/and powercoat...it's like 300 or 400. i thought that was a good price!

Dave400ex
03-30-2002, 11:44 AM
Yeah I don`t think that is Bad. I would like to Gusset and Powdercoat my Frame some Day. I wonder what a New Stock 400EX Frame Costs?

400MXer
03-30-2002, 11:53 AM
i'm not sure...maybe i'll buy a new frame and have them weld gusset and powercoat a new frame....the frame i have now is tweeked a little...and has some cracks, i've welded them, but i'm a $hitty welder so my welds look like crap.

Tommy 17
03-30-2002, 11:58 AM
hetricks also sells jb racing chassis parts... they look good to me..

Dave400ex
03-30-2002, 07:01 PM
That`s what I was thinking about Doing. I could Buy a Stock Frame and have it Gusseted and Powdercoated. You could always have Laeger make you a Frame. LOL, Yeah Right. The JB Stuff does Look Good.

ChadEXer
04-02-2002, 08:03 AM
I am having mine gusseted and powdercoated. i will have pics of it soon in the TC 505 post. i am taking it to the powder shop today. i can have your bike gusseted and powdercoated for quite a bit cheaper than $300-$400. i will let you know exactly today what the powdercoating is but the gusseting is $30. He said powdercoating will be about $170. I can get you the best deal anywhere. if you want it done just keep in touch with me
Chad

Dave400ex
04-02-2002, 09:04 AM
Wow. $30 for Gusseting? Is he making it really Strong? I want mine to be Top Notch. Let us know what the Gusseting and Powdercoating will Cost for the Frame. I`m not going to do it right now, but I would like to some day.

ChadEXer
04-02-2002, 09:34 AM
