I have a 89' 250r with lrd adjustable pipe, 18" holeshots, lrd mx porting and a 38mm airstryker carb. I've read that the stock gearing is 13/38 and right now mine has 15/39. What is the best mx gearing for 250r? I was guessing around 13/40 or 12/38.

The other thing is, anyone that has a 250r setup for mx and has a lrd adjustable pipe, how far out do you have the spredder bolts pushed? what's the distance of the gap?

on my atc250r I have a esr 330 and use 14/38, its great for mx, its nice for tight tracks, but more open tracks(rausch creek) I'm getting into 5th easily. Where I ride normally 5th is the highest gear I see and thats on a long straight away. On my 250r quad I used 14/39 with 20" tires and on the atc I use 18" tires..

86 and 87 stock gearing is 13/39
88 and 89 stock gearing is 13/38

when I had my 89 250r mx, I ran a 14/38. I always wanted to try a 14/37 because with the 38 I felt my gears were to close together.

so would it be better to change the rear gear up a tooth or two and lower the front to 14t? or lower the front to 13t and leave the 38t rear?
in other words is 13/38 better or 14/40 for mx?
