In a car I'd say forget the rears and get a nice set of speakers on an amp up front. Then get subs. The volume and SQ will be pretty kick ***.

Look at my website to see both my systems in my Civic and my Ranger.

From what I was told in the beginning of my car stereo journey is never buy 6x9's! Get either 5.5's or 6.5's instead! They can handle the power better and sound better too! and they were right:D For your basic car stereo (plain jane, just want to listen to music) then 6x9's are fine but when your adding alot of power ect....6x9's are not the way to go. To every competition I've been to, I've never seen 6x9's in a auto???

in my truck i have 2 jl 10w3's in a homemade box with a pioneer deh7200 supertuner that is 45 by 4 ( if i remember correctly!) and a 1500 watt fosgate 2 channel amp. with 2 pioneer 6.5 in the doors.

and i put in my girls neon a deh 3200 pioneer supertuner thats 50x4 going to a 600 watt jensen 4 channel amp pushing 2 kenwood tornados in a cunstom made ported box made by columbus car audio.

the sad part is her car can put my truck to shame:( why did i give her the better system?

the reason her's is better is because it's a car and has more room for sound waves to bounce around in and i bought a 200 dollar custom box for her subs compared to my 8 dollar homemade box.

The wire won't make a difference.

For a night and day difference get an amp. It will make those 6x9's slam pretty good ....

well that depends on the condition of his wiring....if its the original wiring that came on the stock 88 Escort... rip it out IMO. Its old, thin and could be corroded.

Overall though, in this low power application, you wont need a huge wire...just a wire that is in good shape. If you do upgrade to a separate amp for your speakers, you most defiantly need to upgrade size of the wire.
