Heres what I got so far for a 400ex woods race bike, I was planning on building a R but my dad wont let me buy a R (long story) so im sticking with the 400, and hopefully be able to get a old 300ex for just a trail bike when I get enough.

Heres what i have already.

LRD pro-4 system
Edelbrock carb (i like it)
K&N w/ outerwear
sparks 6 degree advance key

Here what a plan.

JE 10.8:1 416 piston kit
XR400 head gasket
Port head for xc and new valve seals
Hotcam stage 1
Hinson 8 plate clutch basket
Sparks 8 plate clutch kit

Do I need anything else to run the 8 plate clutch besides a basket? Any parts need to be changed for something else? Would the HRC cam be better for this setup?

You know if you run the XR gasket, Your compression will be at 11:1. You might have to run a certain amout of race gas.

actually, the sparks 8 plate clutch setup works just fine in the stock basket. yes, the hinson will be stronger. the hrc would provide a little higher revs than the stage 1 bike. for woods i think i would get the stage 1 over the hrc. also, the hrc is much more $$$.
