unless you're into serious drag racing, I wouldn't bother. It'll allow the engine to rev faster, but will cost low rpm torque/
luggability.

technically, the bike should rev a little quicker thru the gears but it will want to stall out easier at low speeds. i have no experience with shaving a flywheel though. you can call rocky ridge and i hear they do good work. also, contact ugly from this site and see if he has tried out his shaved flywheel yet.

My 426 motor has a shaved flywheel and I did not notice too much difference in bottom end torque. All I know is that it revs out WAY quicker now and gives me a total edge on holeshots and coming out of corners. The 400 has gobs of low end anyway if you were concerned about losing some. You wont even be able to tell anything but a POSITIVE difference. Mine was done by TC racing and so are most other people's I have talked to. Get ahold of tom carlson off of his website in the contact section and ask him about it since he probably has more experience doing it than anyone.... You just missed out man, there was a TC lightened flywheel for the 400 for sale on ebay last week for 150.00.

I have a 416 with a lightened flywheel.

It revs very fast. Up hills, out if turns, through the trails, hole-shots, its all a noticeable improvement.

I didn't notice any loss in bottom end, although I had a 416 kit put in it at the same time so I really cant say. But it defiantly revs up quicker, and gets more torque to the ground IMO.

has anyone put a shaved flywheel on their bike with no other mods at the time?? i am just wondering if your getting a gain out of the flywheel or a combination of other mods you added to the bike at the same time you installed the flywheel.

Like I said, call tom carlson at TC and talk to him about it. He knows how much to take off and can explain it all to you...

I had mine lightened with just a slip-on and noticed a difference first ride out. Actually it was my 3rd mod that had done to the quad after the pipe and K&N filter install. If I had to do it all over again I'd have it lightened. she revs out much faster than stock and it has it's advantages on the MX track and in the tight woods and hills of XC racing..:macho

I had mine shaved by rocky ridge, and it made a BIG difference, the bike revs out so much quicker and pulls much harder thru the gears now, the bike does stall quite a bit easier now but after you get use to it, you'll be just fine, you just learn to keep your rpms up deffinantly worth every oppinion in my book

did the lightened flywheel affect top speed?

i can't see how it would give you anymore top speed, its just goin to allow you to get to your top speed much quicker

i wasn't even sure if you would have even alittle less with less rotating mass. maybe the intertia doesn't play a role. i don't know...
