I just did the topend on my quad. with a 10.5:1 piston. I torqued the head bolts to the specs in the manual. Now i hear i should go to 48lbs. Should i rip it apart and retorque them? Will i get more compression if i torque them to 48?

The book calls for 33ft/lbs. You risk pulling the threads in the cylinder by over tightening it.

thats what i thought, but i did a search and everyone says they blow head gaskets without 48 lbs.......

I have had no problems with head gaskets. The only blown head gasket I have seen was a Moose fiber gasket. I use the Cometic metal gaskets and have had good luck at 33lbs.

you might want to be careful with the whole torque thing, I snapped 2 head cover bolts, 2 of the longer ones cause from what I was reading on the forum, Honda made them a little too long so when you go to torque them they hit bottom, personally I'd rather have to get a new gasket if I blew one instead of a new head or tap some threads, you know what I mean.
