I am putting a hinson basket in my 400ex. when i have the nut tightened is there supposed to be any play in the basket? The Bushing that the basket rides on does not allow it to get pinched. Just wondering if that play is normal.

What kind of play are you talking about?

its not play like worn diameters. Its play like the nut would need to be tightened more, but the inner bushing is maybe .015 higher than the basket. Might be normal, i am not sure

Do you have #12 in there?http://www.servicehonda.com/hard%20parts/atv/trx400ex%2099-04/clutch.jpg

yes i have #12, it goes up against #4 and not the basket. I don't know if #12 is supposed to pinch the basket or the bushing(#4). The bushing #4 is maybe .015 higher than the basket. Thats what is giving me play. This is what i am questioning. Thanks

Measure how much play there actually is.

there was between .015-.020 of play. Its normal, i got a hold of a buddy that used to have one in his 400ex. I think my problem was in my other clutch components. I got new stock inner hub, pressure plate, springs, fibers, plates, the nut that holds everything on, gasket and clutch cable. Now its works like new.

Thanks for trying to help Jeff.
