So, im buying my yfz450 and need some opinions, its eith Walsh or lonestar a-arms. And either TCS or elka shocks. the walsh a-arms are $1100. Elka shocks are $1350. The package i was offered was TCS long travel shocks with lonestar a-arms and rebuilt back shock for $2000 even. Any info would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Neither.. Try Holzracingproducts.com. Lonestar geo stinks. Walsh is good but never has the a-arms. Holz has the parts in stock and will set you up with a killer deal. (360) 398-9686

Quadjeff - I am just curious what the camber and caster settings are on the Holtz stuff that makes them that much better than LSR especially since the LSR DC4's are completely adjustible to you liking?

Unless you are a VERY good rider who goes BIG, you probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the two set ups. I have never used TCS shocks, but have heard nice things about them. I do have experiance with Elkas and they are a fine product. Also, the price you listed for the Elkas is for the top of the line shock, with both compression and rebound adjustment. Most riders don't need rebound adjustment. That is why so many people use PEP ZPS shocks. You could get them for about 300 bucks cheaper than the top of the line Elite Elkas. Same with Custom Axis, if you can live without rebound adjustment.

As far as the arms go, if they are both fully adjustable, I really don't see how one could be better than the other, they both put the spindle in the same spot. Some people just have to have a certain brand name. I say go with who can give you the best deal.

Good luck,

Scott

Ya but the walsh have ball-joints made into the arm :) And if you want a great deal on parts for the yfz and/or the bike, call 877-243-3337, ask for Bob. Hes in magnolia arkansas but he hooked me up with the bike and all the parts for realy cheap. Just give him a call and see what he can do for you.

housers also have the ball jounts built into the arm.
What about the laeger t-pin front end?
and I disagree with not getting rebound dampening. the yfz was kicking my kid in the butt going off jumps, and all I did was dial in a little more rebound dampening and problem was solved.

Walsh does not use ball joints. They use heims. Don't know where you get your info.

i have a JRD front end which is pretty much the same thing as roll but like half the price. All chrome arms and tie rods for $850. Uses heim joints. Same setup pro don lysinger uses....amazing setup. Also, i have that setup with elkas on my R...works amazing and very very smooth.

it looks like yes they do use heim joints to connect to the frame
but they use ball style king pin to connect to the spindle!

Mk-

Actually, you are wrong, Walsh uses the king pin style joints, closer to conventional heims than a ball joint. LSR, Metalcraft, etc use a ball joint.

JRD are nice, they should be, they always copy Roll's design. The one thing that the Roll YFZ arms have over everyone else is that they use an unusual heim end incased in a rubber boot. You get the strength and flexibilty of a heim, but don't have to worry about them binding from mud.

All are nice, some more expensive than others, it is up to the individual to figure out what is best.
