I am looking into buying a 250r and was just wondering if my elkas will change over, I know the fronts will but will the rebuilt 400ex rear change over or do I need to get the 250r shock rebuilt?

If not could I have a mount made for the 400ex shock? and will 400ex a arms fit on a r with little modification?

*edit* would it be better to buy a 400ex frame, and put the r engine and parts in it?

250r... ...buy a 400 frame and stick all the R stuff in it...400ex frame is stronger anyway...then run some 400ex shocks...which have more travel then 250r...u best not sell ur 400ex...or ull be racing open 2 stroke by urself lol...i think u can race B-AA with 2 strokes...but i kno u cant do C...ill move up to B wit u if ur sellin ur 400ex...B is better class anyway...less riders and less stupid idiots :p

The rear will not work unless you made new lower linkage.

The a-arms will fit. They are 1/16-1/8 narrower then the R a-arms so you could either make a spacers or just tighten them down till the mounts squish down. You would only have to do one spacer for each mount point if you wanted to go that route. Just make sure you stick them all on the same side(front or back).

no im not selling the 400 yurik i wont be done with this project until this winter anyway so still going to race C for this year, but i can run 250+ 2stroke buy myself and get first everytime :).

Ive always wanted a R, is it just the lower rear linkage or the top aswell?

The R upper rear shock mount is wider so you would need a spacer. Both measure around 11 inches from lower linkage point on the frame, to the lower linkage point on the swinger. It looks like the R linkage goes down lower. It is hard to tell for sure though because my R has 3 1/2 inches of sag set and my EX is on a stand with no rear shock:p  I didn't measure the mount widths though. I belive the R mounting points are wider though, not possitive though.

BTW I am compareing my 86'R to my EX, the 88-89 has a slightly different setup. I think it is closer to the EX.

ok thanks for all the help i think im just goign to get the rear shock for the r revalved and sprung and keep the r frame get it gusseted and pced, leave my elkas on the R since its race bike and and run stockers on 400 unless I know we are going somewhere I might want them. Now will the ssd rear 400 shocks work with the fronts if i raise it back up a bit?

I wouldn't worry about raiseing it unless you are running a lot of sag.
