Todays event was the first team race planned at this track. Turn out was adequate and I expect to see it grow as more riders find out about it. The team would consist of 2 riders and 1 or 2 quads. Each team had to have a certain class rider (no Pro or A riders could form a team) and each rider could ride thier own quad or the team could share a quad.

The start was dead engine with the riders standing in front of thier machines.

When the hammer dropped on the trusty 12 gauge, the riders quickly fired thier quads and it was on!

Chris Borich(#2) just edges Santo Derisi(#8) at the start

This was Santo's first race on his Honda and he was looking to finish well on it. He battled Chris thru the first turn and thru the whoops section like he had been riding it all his life

The remainder of the field works its way thru turn 1

The racers that were riding the 2nd quads in this event were staged in a row so that officials could make sure clean tags were made and to keep all riders doing what they needed to do after thier lap was complete

1/2 way thru lap one had Chris Borich leading Rob Hertz by mere seconds.

Santo was in 3rd at this point and the field started to become spread out. This rider was running 4th

This YFZ rider compresses his suspension as he flat lands a tabletop. The track at Tomohawk has been changed and it took a lap or two for riders to start hitting the jumps on the mx portion of the course

This rider gets his nose too high but managed to safely land the jump.

Riders completing a lap would tag off to thier partner and then it was a whole new group of riders on the course. Joe Borich handles his R as he headed up the 2nd half of Team Borich!

Team Derisi's second rider working his way thru the whoops section

Pappy

All riders made it thru the whoops section with no big wrecks, although some did it with a bit more style then others

Pappy

Just keep the nose up and its all good:macho

The Honda 450R is now well represented at all levels of racing. The underdog is now teaching the racing scene a few new tricks!

This YFZ rider comes up a touch short but handled it just fine!

With $500 on the line, every rider tried his best to get his shot at winning the race!

Getting some air was a good thing, as temperatures were in the low 90's at race time. Heat was one of the biggest obstacles to overcome

Leader Chris Borich sets sail over the 80 foot table!

Although Andy Lagzdins wasnt present, his company was as this Dirtfirst rider rode hard from start to finish!

Still running 3rd in this picture, Santo was getting the feel for the Honda.

Pappy

Right where he wanted to be...out front. The 2nd place team was keeping the leader in check and any type of accident would leave the gate wide open for the victory to be taken!

Santo dropped back to 4th after a slight disagreement with a tree:p

This bottom on the mx track is one of my favorite for taking pictures, however, there was NO wind blowing and the ehat was too much for me:( Even the bugs didnt darego into that sauna:o

The run up to this jump was too muddy for any great speed, but I think riders had fun hitting it anyway:D

Pappy

Santo keeps on the gas as the recent rains turned sections into impromptu mud pits

Pappy

The YFZ starting problem attacked this rider and he had to be push started every lap:(

Pappy
05-23-2004, 05:42 PM
After he got the quad fired up, he was gone:)

Pappy

Chris and father Joe "Tag" and prepare for another lap!

Pappy

This team used only 1 quad and are here shown getting some fuel

Pappy

This rider works his way thru the muddy, rock and rut infested course, when mere yards away a fresh line awaits a rider who doesnt want to go thru that slime!

Joe Borich heads out on his last lap. Leading, with a few seconds to spare!

Pappy

after 3 hours of racing , no teams that i saw showed much sign of letting off the gas:macho

Pappy

Chris Borich on the last lap. All he needed to do was finish this section and the money would be all his!

Pappy
05-23-2004, 05:55 PM
Chris crosses the finish line taking home the money. Congrats to Team Borich! Team Derisi finished 4th with Team Hertz taking 3rd

Santo's run in with a tree left his stock tie rod spent:( he was able to finish the race on his yfz.

Awsome coverage! I can't wait to get back to Tomahawk! The course looked even better then before. Bruce and chad are doing great things out there! I guess the big question is now when is the next one since it looks like this was a succsess?? I am sure we can get some of the D-7 boys out there next time.

Thanks to all who came out for a good day of racing....this was the first time for Tomahawk to run a team race....there were a few bugs to work out, but all went well. There was quite a bit learned and will be put together for the next time Tomahawk runs the Ironboss.

Pappy did you get a picture of the trophies? I think the guys were just as stoked to get those trophies for 2nd and 3rd as the winners were for getting the money. The trophies were hand made by the lead singer of Ironboss....check out there music at www.ironboss.com and they are featured in the MX video The Great Outdoors 2.

A good friend of mine, Chris Rhoten, is the one that made the Trophies, and he is an incredible metal artist. Chris is also a crazy motorcycle rider and helped me build my MX track.

I think there were some D-7 racers out there. I'm pretty sure the Kyte brothers finished pretty good. We'll all have to get out there together next time cause it looks like a fun event.
