What tire out now will give the best overall hook-up? I need a 6-ply because i ride SOLID ROCK. I am leaning to the RAZRII's, but do any other tires hook up better tham them?

I have been running a set of the new Holeshot HD Rear tires since the Loretta Lynn's GNCC race. They are a heavy tire in general but hook up better than any xc tire i have had on my bike yet. They advertise them as a 6 ply tire with a 6 ply side wall to help reduce sidewall punctures. I HAVE NOT RODE on the razor II's but was told that they have too much side bite in turns. hope this helps. ed

Plus, I like the holeshot design.

My Knarly's are awesome. They hook up great and slide very predictably. Much better than standard holeshots but I'm not sure about the HD's.

Razor 2's only hook up good in soft terrain. Thats why you only see the pro's running them when its muddy.

I feel that the Razr 2 hooks up in hard terrain better then the Razr's. It could be b/c of the 2 st. I have never rode Razr 1 or 2 on a 4st. I feel that the Razr's hook up better in the rocks.

2 things...Jeff - I saw Yokley wasn't running the XCR fronts during the last race? I run the XCRs (front and back) and hook up pretty much everywhere...but sliding...I slide all the way around on a MX type corner...maybe too much pressure. Yes XCRs wear alot more, but they seem to hook up in anything too. They are alot softer than the Razr too, whcih is why I went with the holeshots. If you want a hard ride...razr2

I'm pretty sure Yokley runs the XC fronts most of the time. I liked the XC's better on front and rear over the XCR's for traction and ground clearance. You should be running around 5psi unless its really rocky like Rausch was.

I dropped my fronts down to about 4-5 to get a little better bite and easier on the hands....run about 4 in the back.

I saw some pictures of Yokley running XCRs in a XC race and then I saw he was running XCs in the last race...I'm still happy with my XCRs, I just didn't know if anybody knew why. (I know a taller tire up front would be easier in a race too, but wasn't sure that was it)

Rear XCR's were designed for quads like the 400ex that don't quite have the HP to slide as easy as some of the other race quads. XC's won't slide nearly as easy as the XCR's.
