400 ex = 400 xr engine?

My cilynder is waisted and I need to find a new or used old one. Can anyone tell me if my 400 ex engine of 2000 is the same as the honda 400 xr? If this is the case it will be much easier to find a spare one.

From what I understand, the 400ex motor is basically the same as the XR400 but with heavier duty gears and some other changes (just like the difference between the CRF450 and 450R). You should have no problem if you just want to replace the cylinder or top end parts. If you want a whole new motor, I would go to Ebay and look. They almost always have complete 400ex motors on there for between 400-1000 depending if they are built or not. Do that or search forum classifieds like here and ********.com for example under the parts section. 400ex motors are a dime a dozen right now since alot of people are parting their EX's out to get 450's.
