i have a 2002 400ex Can u drill out the pilot jets to the size that u want. I have a stock 38 pilot what size drill would i use to get it to the same size as a 42 pilot

The reason i'm asking is i'm sick and tired of working with the honda dealers, I have tried 3 different dealers:

Dealer 1) didn't order it the first time, know that they have finally ordered the jet it has been 2.5weeks and i still don't have it

Dealer 2) The guy didn't know what a 400ex or pilot jet was :huh

Dealer 3) tried to tell me that the aftermarket didn't make a 42 pilot

you have a few options.

1. i could sell you a pilot in the size you want

2. you could call C&D and they would be able to hook you up

3. go to the dealerships and find what you want yourself in their books.

drilling a pilot jet would basically serve the same purpose but i wouldn't recommend it. a new pilot is not that expensive.

I don't think it would be the same........

christ jetting is gay. can't everyone imagine how better it'll be when they're all EFI?

One thing I ran into when changing the pilot jet is that there are apparently different styles of Keihin jets (?) I had a long 42 pilot...like it wouldn't fit in the carb because it was too long. Then I got a 42 pilot that was shorter and would fit in.

I am sure someone else can clear that up, but that kinda prolonged my process.:(

actually tuning a carburated motor is easier than efi

there are 21 and 22 series pilot jets for our keihin carbs. the 21 series is what fits in. yes, the 42 and larger pilot jets are longer then the stock ones. however, the threads are the exact same and will fit into our carb just fine. don't worry about the extra length.

I recently got a 40 pilot and it was longer also, works fine tho.

just because the hole is bigger doesn't mean the jet will flow more. Shape has a lot to do with it. Just shell out the buck fiddy
for the jet...

Thats what I was thinking instead of having to adjust 5 things you need to adjust 50 or whatever. I forget howmany diffrent thing you could adjust in cannondales maps.

And instead of having a $4 pilot jet you have a $100 throttle position sensor.Plus you have to have mapping software(and know how to use it) and so on and so on.EFI is more efficient that's for sure but I wouldn't say it is easier.

I would strongly recommend you NOT drill out the holes in your pilot jet. Just spend the two dollars and buy the new one.

and here I thought I was the only one who thought about drilling out my jets. The only difference between me and you is that I actually went through with it. Bad bad bad idea. There is no way you can get it right. Me and my best friend (who is a liscenced honda mechanic at a certified honda dealership) got some ultra fine drill bits and went to town on my carb. Well after that my bike spit and sputtered. I couldn't ride it until I bought the right jets. Take it from me, just but the jets. Your going to end up buying them anyway.
