View Full Version : .125 rims alright for trail riding?

Would .125 Douglas rims be strong enough for general trail riding? Rough riding but no jumping. I've got a line on a set of four in good shape for $100 plus shipping. Is this a decent price? Thanks as always for your advice!

Hey Steph,
I would recommend at least the black labels (160's). I do mainly trail riding and I bent one of mine around the lip from hitting a rock I'm sure. You just never know when a big rock or tree stump will be in your way on the trails.

The other guys ar right. The .125's are very flimzy. I would buy them though. Its really nice to have a spare wheel around. A spare, thats about the ONLY thing you should do with those.

My buddy had (key work..had) .125's on his 'shee. We were ridin' onecday and got tangled up. Anyhow, the wheel got taco'd so bad that it actually cracked the aluminum. We were about an hour and a half from home. Nutin he could do, except load it up and watch us ride.

If you found a good deal on them you could weld race rings on them to strenghten them for trail riding. Just a suggestion.

get the .190s unless you like beating your wheels back with a hammer

I got Douglas 190's on the back of mine. I have had them on for almost 2 years and I don't have one ding or bend in them. They have seen alot of abuse. I have the 160's on my sand tires and they have a couple of small dings in them. All they ever have seen is the sand.
So I recommend the Red Labels 190's they will be cheaper in the long run.
Just my thoughts....

Get 160s with rings or 190s. $100 isin't such a super deal. Its good just not super. You will bend the 125s. IMHO
