i love my 300ex but the powers getting kinda low after having it for 6 months, i love having reverse and electric start and the kfx400 has both, the kfx suspension has more travel front and same rear, its lighter, people say its faster

besides price is there any down side to it then the ex?

i'd just stay away from the first year z/kfx400's as their metal is really weak....the dvx400 has its frame stregnthened apparently & i would tget that if it was up to me. the 400ex isn't slow though so if you see one you like i'd get one of those...its up to you

I admit the z400 built quads (KFX400/DVX400) are really good quads if not better than 400ex's but come on Honda vs. Suzuki? =P

I am very biased, but I would go honda over kawi or suzi every day of the week!

The only 2 quads I would own that are not a honda are the zilla 500, only for the rareness in my area, or the 450 yammi.

if youre getting them new and keeping them stock, get the kawi. however, you can get a good 400ex thats already set up for a great price now that most of the racers have switched to the new 450s. the hondas seem to hold up a little better too.

go to www.z400central.com you deffinately will NOT be dissapointed. I have ridden both and my definate favorite is the Z400. The Honda EX is a great bike, but the Z is a Z...

If you want something that is going to be very dependable get the Honda.I know a couple of guys with the Z's and they spend there money to keep there quads going verses added new things to them.I would say Honda over the Z for that alone.

It's your money tho........

This was my reponse to his post over at Z400 Central....

Geeee I wonder what my vote would be for, hmmm... Anyway, I ride with 4 guys with Z's (only Honda left in the group). Before I got moy motor work done, I just had the Sparks pipe and jetted carb and would SMOKE a stock Z in a drag (didn't matter which bike or rider). Two of the guys ended up getting CT pipes and jetted them and I drage race one (QuadZ here on the forums) all of the time and he got me by 2 bike lengths consistantly while my motor was stock with the pipe. Now I just got this new motor back (see my sig) so the tables should changed.

Anyway, to the subject at hand. The Z is better in most respects (a little more power stock for stock but I would argue that the 400EX has more low and mid grunt). The Z's suspension is a little software (great for the PA trail riding that we do) and the EX is a little harsher (better for MX or aggresive trail riding). Seat is better on the Z as is water cooling and reverse. The EX sits a little lower and feels ever so slightly more planted.

Pros and cons to each but I do feel that it's closer than most people would lead you to believe here (on this Zuki biased site). You ask the same question at EX Riders and the response will be the opposite. I do however feel that NOTHING beats Hinda build quality and reliability which means a lot when you are in the woods 40 miles from nothing like we sometimes are. Just my humble opinion....

You know it! But I would wait and see what the Z450 looks like, I tell you what if it has the "e" button and reverse, well i might change colors.:eek2:

it'll be some time before we see a Z450 though.

He has a brand new quad now, just ride it until then. Supposedly next spring.

I was going threw the same thing before I got my 400ex. At that time the z400 was relatively new. Yes the z had a little more HP stock and similarly modded. But when I test rode them, suspension felt almost identical, the ergos nod went to the Honda. What tipped the scale was replacement parts cost. The Z was 2-3 times more expensive than the Honda for similar items. Plus I could get the ex for 600 bucks less than the z to begin with. Yes the z is marginally better but $ to $ the 400ex was a better choice for me.

instead of buying a z just spend the extra 800 bucks and get the 450r in the long run youll be saving after all youll have to hop up the z to compete with these new rocketships
