View Full Version : 416 broken in problem! HELP!

Hey,

I just got the 416 all broken in and it runs strong no odd motor sounds. But when I hit the gas it sounds great from idle to half throttle, then when I hit 1/2 throttle it just goes crazy and sputters like a mofo. I am pretty sure I'm running way lean? I have a 165 main, 40 pilot, ands tock needle setting. Its obviously a fuel problem, what do you reccomend?

i know what ur problem is.... GROW SOME BALLZ haha j.k norm haha... i had to say it u gave me the perfect chance...

i am runnin a 160 in mine with a 42 pilot jet... on my jet card it says that i should run a 170 with a slip on... so mayb this will help u.... i say go up to the 170...

are you talking about just sitting there in neutral and reving it or are you under a load? does it sputter in neutral when you revit above 1/2 throttle?

It happens in neutral and when its in gear moving.

Yup and most definitly go up to a 42 pilot....I ran the 40 pilot with my setup for a long time and it helped but when I went to a 42 it helped even more,,go up on that and like VWVR6 said,,go down one notch on the needle clip,,the main jet sounds OK. Are you running with or without a lid??

You've got a bigger problem than just upping the main jet. From the sound of what you describe, check to see it your carburator is connected correctly to both the intake side of your engine and to the airbox. I had had come off after a big jump once and it acted like what you dsecribe. If it was just running too lean, it would run great... for a while.

It could also be that your main jet fell out of the carb and is setting in the float bowl.

Well, today I bought K&N jet kit and put the new needle in and I am running the dynojet 170 main. Its runs like a champ now, but I ran into another slight problem.......:( I got a faulty head gasket! Man those cometic gaskets blow! I was real iffy about using it since it was all material except for the metal ring to hold the compression in. It runs great and has compression, but blows oil out between the head and the cylinder. I think I blew it by were the oil comes up through the head. I will be purchasing a metal honda head gasket and that should work alot better. Oh well you live, and you learn. I guess I won't be riding this weekend!
