today i rode my 400 down the street came back and turned on the lights and they seemed dim. So i put it in nuetral and the neutral light was dull too. so i turned it off. and then it wouldnt start and the nuetral light wouldnt even go on. Also the oil tank was hot and the engine is still very hot after about 45 minutes. it was only about 78 today so i dont know whats wrong with it?

When you said it wont start did it turn over , make a clicking noise or just nothing? the dim lights might be from a loose ground wire, same with the no start if iit wouldnt turn over.

no that what i thought at first too because my ground wire some times gets dirty and sparks and wont turn over but it wasnt that. it wont turn over at all. i can pop start it though.

Is your battery dead? Try charging it for like 20 minutes.

you never know. the lights all run off of the battery.. if they went dim the battery is low.. and now it wont start.. check the fuse possibaly the netural thing you said shorted out the fuse.. put in a new one and see if thats it.. get a battery tester or just charge it.. try jumping starting off of another battery and let it run to charge

Check that ground cable that you mentioned earlier. My 440 is a 99 and it just recently broke of from moving back and forth I guess and it basically did the same thing as yours but not gradually. Just no neutral light and no start. Later mate

Needs a new battery. If you can pull start it and the lights and neutral lights are dim, then you cant restart it after its died then the battery is dead. And putting it on the charger usually wont work, it needs a new battery. Another thing you might check is the stator, its a big magnet and will pull all metal towards itself, I have seen stators pull enough metal to start causing problems.
