Is there any way to lower a 450r without a kit? And if so how?
Thanks

i spoke with dura blue yesterday evening and they just finished up the adjustable real lowering kit for the 450r. from what i could tell it is like what was used ont he 250r and will run around $100

The problem with "Lowering kits" is they typically throw off the leverage ratios on the shocks.

In the rear, they make it a bunch softer due to more leverage on the shock (which also extends travel. Another side effect of this is by lengthening the rear link, they also move the progressive portion of the travel out of the useable suspension motion.

In the front they typically make it much more firm by decreasing the leverage ratio on the shocks - which also decreases travel.

Lowering "kits" work in a pinch, but will typically cause the front end to have a strong tendency to push.

Stock rear shock with a different springset from my stash.

This setup with the addition of a sway bar & American racers would work well for oval.

This is a specific setup for some ATV Rodeo stuff we do in the spring/summer. With a little more tweaking it will probably also be used for a small TT track that we may be racing at later this year.

any hints on the type of spring? :blah: i have front shocks but need to be revalved but the rear is what i was worried about. i might be going this weekend to help lay out a tt. TT and oval racing hasnt been very big in a few years but im trying to bring it back up. for TT racing do you feel the swing arm is short enough of would someone want to go shorter?

My swingarm setup feels pretty good so far. The quad is very balanced and hooked up - much more so than my 400EX ever was.

The rear springset is from one of my 400EX setups - I have quite a few parts laying around and mixed and matched until I was happy and had a setup that would work.

Try Holz Racing for there rear linkage. This is not a lowering kit. Similar to the no-link style leager. I am not sure if it will work on a stock swingarm. www.holzracingproducts.com I put his entire set-up on my 450 and it lowered it 1 1/2 and is full adjustable.
