You should pick up some maxima pre-mixed radiator fluid, an 85w oil (it really depends on your weather ie: hot/cold), popular premix choices are: amsoil, klotz, maxima, golden spectro, and some chain oil. As far as gas run premium, and pick up a ratio rite as well for mixing your pre-mix. A premix ratio of 32:1 is good place to start, but if you go with a higher quality synthetic like amsoil s2000 you can run it safely at 50:1 (50:1 being less oil to gas than 32:1).

32:1 means 32 parts gas, 1 part oil. A "part" can be any measurement you want, gallons, liters, cubic centimeters, but most people prefer ounces. So 32 ounces of gas to 1 ounce of oil.

1 gallon has 128 ounces in it. So 128 ounces of gas requires 4 ounces of oil to make 32:1

Oil will come in 16oz bottle, so mix it with 4 gallons of gas.

OR like most people do, buy a ratio rite (its a measuring cup basically) and fill it up to 32:1. It has markings for like .5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5 gallons. So to fill a 5 gallon gas can, pour 2 cups in at 32:1 on the 2.5 gallon marking.

If you do a lot of riding, you'd be better off to buy premix in the 1 gallon jugs, you can save a couple dollars compared to buying the equivalent in 1 quart bottles. But until you decide which premix you are going to stick with for your motor, you will probably be better off to buy in smaller amounts so you don't get stuck with too much extra premix that your motor doesn't like.

ok so where can I buy this "ratio rite?" How big is the stock gas tank on a 250r? So how would I go about filling up the tank with this mix?

You can get it at any atv/dirtbike store. You will up a gas can with however many gallons, then you fill up the ratio right with the desired amount of oil for however many gallons of gas, and then pour it into the gas can. Mix, then add to gas tank.

Yeah, don't try to mix it in your gas tank. Mix in a gas can, then pour it into your tank.

how big is a stock tank? Do you suggest that I buy an aftermarket tank as one of my first things to buy because i plan on racing XC and I noticed that a lot of people have bigger gas tanks.

I believe the stock tank is 3.2 gallons?

I think your first action item is seat time. Get on it, ride it around, and learn the characteristics of it. Once you do that, you will know if you need a new tank, or new pipe, or a-arms, or axle, or whatever. Get on it and ride it, and you won't have to ask us what you need because you'll learn it for yourself.
