i had a fully built 416 w/a bored stock carb until i blew it up:grr: but i bought a used stock motor and used the same carb and all it wanted to do is flood out, so i leaned all the jets and it still wont run right!? ive tried all different size jets and also adjusted the fuel mix. screw and all it does is spit and sputter. i did put duct tape around 1/2 the air filter and it helped it out but it still wasnt right, so will a bored carb run on a stock motor? is it possible to get too much air? by the way i am running a K&N, the choke's been removed and the air box lid has been moddified. somebody please help me out??????!!!!!!

what jets you running with that setup? you don't have an air leak do you?

air leak: make sure your carb is clamped on tight too the boot that goes to the air box and the boot that connects to the head. make sure the 3 bolts holding the boot to the head are tight too.

move the clip on the needle down to the 3rd position. leave the 155 in for now and see how it runs.

no air leaks, and ive already tried just about every jetting possibility

i would take the carb apart then and remove all of the jets and spray the heck out of it. i think the very top clip position is definately not where it needs to be though. possibly the 2nd, but i would guess not the first.

by the way, i assume you don't have the choke on full or half way on accident?

i know the needle shouldnt be at the first position but thats when it runs the best, i was wondering if it being bored(the carb) was the reason b/cause when i have it on the 2nd or 3rd postion it just floods out.

A stock carb bored should work on a stock motor. I would call sparks racing for some jetting hints (They offer to bore a stock 400 carb). Then once you have set the carb to their suggestions I would start looking else where. I would start by double checking your valve clearances. Might me out of whack. I would also take off the duct tape when you re-jet according to sparks. If you were running rich to begin with, limiting the air flow would only make it worse. Anyway, I have to believe that it would work something else is wrong.
