Will a stock 400ex motor be able to handle nos? I was just wondering because i think it would be cool on mine but i dont want to blow the motor?

all you have to do is run it a bit rich because NOS will lean it out

Nitrous Oxide is safe to any engine as long as the Nitrous to fuel ratio is kept constant and you do not exceed the engines power capability. Meaning if you try to add another 100% horsepower to your stock machine, it will be on borrowed time. If you stick to a 25-35% power gain it will run forever. From what I have read about 400EX's, I would not exceed 40 horsepower total on a stock EX.

A buddy put NOS on his stock 400EX and it would keep up, sometimes beat, my 440 w/ port and XR cam with a 15 hp shot. He spent $620, I spent $1100 for the same hp. He did have some bugs to work out in the beginning. I'm thinking that a NX system would be nice addition to my current mods.

Even on a car, NOS is very dangerous. Just one little air bubble and ka-bluey. And engine will grenade from beneith the hood. Just remember, cars have computer controlled sealed fuel delivery systems and digital ignition to mix just the right amount of fuel and air. Dialing in Nos on a car can be pretty easy. A quad. on the other hand, uses the most origional of fuel delivery systems....carburetor. Now, you go trying to keep an air bubbly out of a prehistoric carb......i hope you have money for a new motor.

I don't discurage anyone for doing what they want to their machines, its your money. I just think that NOS is for those who don't have the detication and intelligence to build their motor correctly. I've also seen first hand how dangerous (explosive) juice is.

Also, cars have hoods and fire walls to protect the driver from blown motors.....what do quads have.....

I don't think what texan said about the intellegance and dedication to build a motor correctly is true. Yes NOS can be very dangerous, but it is also cheap power compared to other things. My uncle has NOS on his 327 v-drive boat , and his friend runs it on a 427 jet boat. But I have also seen the manifold get blown completely off of the 427. Check out the tanks on the left and right side of the motor.

The only time nitrous is dangerous is when you run it out of fuel. My Mustang(carburated) has been on the bottle for many years now, and no failures yet. Makes no difference whether its carbed or injected. The only people that fear the bottle are the ones who don't understand it.
