i have an 04' 400ex. it has a yoshimura slip on pipe, and a k&n w/ outerwears and no airbox lid. i have been noticing lately(since it has warmed up) that it pops a little in deceleration. like, if i am in second gear with the motor wrapped up a bit and let off the exhaust pops, but not real bad. does this mean i am lean somewhere?? i have a dynojet 170 main in right now, but i don't think that this is a main jet problem. could it me my needle?? i also have the dynojet needle in it on the second clip i believe. i am in kansas if that helps anyone. thanks in advance!!

You are lean but I am not inclined enought with jetting w/ a Dynojet kit. Popping on decel is a lean condition.

Where in KS are you from?

try to go larger on the pilot jet first

i am from hays. i will try the pilot thing first, and go from there. i just hate tearing the thing apart. i will try to get it done this week.

While you have it apart, throw in a 42 pilot jet, tear out the choke, and go from 2- 2 1/2 turns out on the air/mixture screw:) Also you may want to do a WFO plug test, a 170 seems a little rich for the set-up you have.

yeah, a 170 may be a little rich, but it seems to run ok. while i have it all apart, i am going to go down to a 165. so nobody thinks it could be a needle problem??

i am not positive with the dynojets, but i hear a lot of people running the needle clip in the 3rd position. i have a feeling your a tad lean on the needle or the pilot jet. i would try the pilot jet first though.

i had to order the pilot jet from the honda shop. i will hopefully get it by the weekend, if not monday. you guys think a 42 is too big on the pilot?? thats what i got, so i hope not.

that pilot will be fine. remember, the fuel skrew is a fine tune adjustment for the pilot jet so you can turn that in to lean it out a bit if need be.
