well i want to get alttle more power out of my 400ex. i really don't want to spend to much on it because i am planing on making it a 440 or a 416 or a 426 at the start of next year with probably 10:8 compression so i can run pumped gas but it will most likely be a 440. is that that big of a power difference between a stock bore 10:8 compression pistion and a 416 with the same compression? and i was probably going to go with a XR cam

i have a 406 ross 10.8:1 piston that i used for about 8 tanks of fuel. the piston is in good shape and definately woke the bike up when combined with a hotcam. i will sell you this piston fairly cheap if you want it. if you want it, you will want to probably get new rings since it is recommended. my rings are in great shape but the builders would recommend getting new ones and matching them to your cylinder. i imagine that a 416 might just have a tad bit more low end power than a stock bore but nothing too noticable.

ya i have thought about a 406 and what kinda price are you thinking about? i would really like to keep the stock bore just becasue it is pertty cheap to slide in a higher compression pistion.

even with a stock bore piston, you must get your cylinder honed out. i am not going to be really really picky on the price. if you wanted it for like $35-$40 shipped i would let you have it. it is in good shape and it includes: piston, all rings, circlips, pin, and all of the directions that came with the pistons along with the ross box that has all of the specs on it.

with this price + boring it should cost less than a brand new ross or je piston not counting what it would cost for yours to be honed if you ran a stock bore piston. boring should be under $60. i paid $60 and that is the most expensive that i have heard anyone on here say they paid to get it bored.

either way, let me know. thanks cal

I have an XR400 cam that I just replaced with an HRC cam. The XR400 cam is only slightly more aggressive than a stock cam. The XR400 cam, along with my 10:8, 416 kit was a nice wake-up, and I would recommend it as a starting point. The XR400 cam I have is still in great shape, and was only used for two very light summers of riding. I can save you a few bucks over brand new. Make me an offer. I can take some pics and email them to you if you want.

cal do you got any pics of your ross pistion? i would be intersted in piicking it up for about 40 or so bucks and shiping would probably be pretty cheap so i really really bought anything off the net before so i don't really know how it works so let me know.

right now i don't have pics but i will get them for you. i have dial up connection so it is hard to do but i will have my bro figure it out. :D

what is your email address so i can send them there? yes, i will take $40 shipped for it. i usually just take money orders and when i receive it, i ship the stuff out.

I will prolly keep the 400 for a long time... so, I went with a std. bore h.c. piston., XR400 head gasket and a thinner base gasket. I also picked up a used XR cam from one of the guys here too. After a ball hone (at home), some port matching and light polishing, I'm pleased with the results and I have plenty of overbores left. :)
