checking the valves

how do you know when you need a valve adjustment... The ticking thing.. I cant really hear it when i listin for it i listen on the left side of the engine and I dont know if its a tick or not, But i dont hear a clunk anyways.. Is there any other ways to check to see if you need a valve adjustment? with out taking the head off

i will adjust them if i hear some different noises than what i call normal in the top end. also, if i don't hear any noises i will go ahead and adjust them once or twice a year anyways.

The 4 caps on top of the head give you direct access to the valves without removing a serious part of the engine. You dont lose any oil either thats the best part.
