I was wondering if it would be worth it for me to get an alum. air box for my 2003 400ex

Depends. Do you want to spend the money for it? IMO it doesn't really offer you any power gains. It does look nice and if it holds the battery and coil, it can be nice. Too pricey imo. You can mod the stock airbox with 1" inserts for better air flow and/or keep the lid on/off.

I really dont think they are worth what they cost, but I am getting ready to buy one since mine is broke in 2 places, and I thought I might as well make it look nice.

Plus they have a model that has a lid, nice touch for us cross country riders.Dont forget that the stock location of the battery puts extra stress on the subframe..
