Ok I finally got enough money for a used 400ex. I have around 2700. I can always get a loan from my dad if i need another couple hundred dollars. Heres the thing, my dad doesnt want me to buy used. He thinks its like buying other peoples problems. Theres a 2000 400ex with a superstrapp pipe for 2800 obo. We have not checked it out or anything(have not seen it) but my dad doesnt want me to buy it or any others. He's like "Well they have probably ridden very hard and are wore out." every bike that i find for sale he says that. We have an old house to sell and when we sell it we can afford a new 400ex. What should i do? Buy a used one with some aftermarket parts or waste money on a brand new stock 400ex? What can i tell my dad about buying used? Thanks!!

I highly agree with buying used only from someone you know that has taken good care of it i bought a used blaster with 3 rides on it and it looked great but i got it home and months later gaskets started blowin everywhere, i'd wait and get a brand new one maybe they'll even throw in a helmet or free riding gear or somethin ifyour'e lucky:cool:

I only buy used. Such a better deal. Just be an informed buyer and really look the quad over.

If you got the money buy new, but whats the difference? Theyre all gonna break sooner or later, Figure you will spend 5 gs on a new 400ex, and they are going for $3000 on a decent used one, so you have $2000 that you didnt spend, so what If you have to buy a chain and sprocket set, or bearings or whatever but I dont think there will be $2000 needed in parts when you buy a used one, unless its really beat and you got ripped off

Go used. I've had my 400ex for almost 2 years know. The only thing that I've had fixed on it was an a-arm. If you buy it used, some people have suped it up some. But if you buy it used, you have to sup it up yourslef. Go used man.

i bought new. this is the best way to go. that way you know you are the one beating on it and you know exactly what has happened to it. you can always find used one's in the cycle trader or newspaper and they say "never beaten...." or "never raced...." or "never ridden hard...." all of those sayings are bs and it is hard to find one that someone will be honest about, becasue they all get ridden hard. $2700 will get you a decent used on, but $2700 would be a great down payment on a new one.
