A riding buddy has a Z400 with 13.5:1 piston and hotcams. He's got the higher amp cranking battery, yet it still takes a couple turns to fire up. He's running strait 110. Could the fuel be that cool that it takes a couple rolls over to fire up. What do you suggest doing? This is in hot or cold weather.

Sounds like jetting. Too rich or lean on the fuel mixture screw and/or pilot jet....

Does the 400ex have auto-decompression for starting? I don't know much about it but thats sounds a likely cause.

Sorry guys, I'm posting faster than I'm thinking. The Z400 is basically the same motor as the one in my KLX400 dual sport. It is an auto-decomp motor.
