I'm sorry to say but the RM will spank you:(
there more powerfull and lighter. the only way you could beat him is if he is the worst rider ever but.........

Your only chance is to go for a long race. MX bikes are geared pretty short, and you should have a slightly higher MPH. He's gonna kill you until he tops out though.

I raced my buddy's 1999 CR250 with my Raptor(when it was piped only), and it wasn't pretty. He toasted me until 4th gear, and then I caught and passed him. He was topped out by then. Now with my 727, I toast him from start to finish. 4 lengths from the start, and then I steadily pull away from there. Revenge is sweet.

Both bikes will be faster. The RM250 will beat both of you by a longshot.

i agree both bikes will kill the 400ex. i have a 400ex and i wouldn't try to drag a rm 250!! i had a 2001 kx 100 and my buddie had a '02 400ex both were stock and we are identical riders but i would kill him until 4th or 5th gear. but the kx 100 only weighs 150lbs. most any good dirt bike will kill a quad in a short drag just because of weight differences IMO.

its been said but ill say it again, rm250 will kill you, you'll have more traction over him in sand but he'll wax ur *** either way, go for the long race

I had a KX125 that was modded fairly well. It was setup for motocross and geared down and I beat a stock raptor with a good rider pretty good all the way through the gears. I had about 5mph top over him. Man do i miss that bike.

You won't beat an RM125, and won't be anywhere close to an RM250.

A few years ago I used to ride and race MX bikes some, and me and one of my riding buddies had '97 RM125s that were geared the same and set up identical in the motor department; Bill's pipe and silencer, Boyesen reeds, and Twin-Air filters, both jetted properly. When I got my EX, I knew my RM was quite a bit faster, but there was no way I could ride both to know how much faster. So, my buddy brought his RM down for a weekend ride and we did a few drag races. The rider skill and experience is basically the same between us so that wasn't a factor, and I weigh a bit less.

We didn't measure the distance, but it was somewhere around 100-125yds. The only time my EX would pull the bike was right off the start. I got better traction and the torque of the 4-stroke helped me get a better launch. By the time I was shifting into 3rd gear, he was around me, and then I just watched as he pulled away in a hurry. We drag raced several times, with every result being the same, me getting smoked. He even messed up one run and hit neutral as he was going into 2nd, and he still caught back up and made it around before we crossed the finish.

We never raced at a longer distance, but we didn't need to, that would have just made my EX look that much slower. I have no idea how fast those RMs would run and I don't even remember what gearing we were running, but they had a higher top speed than any 400EX that I've been on.

So, unless your drag race is about 10ft, you're going to get smoked any way you go about it.

I think quads should stick to dragging quads, because any dirtbike 125 and up will kill any quad. A 250r is like a power wheels when i race them things.

if you want to beat the bike try challanging him to a ballancing contest. you can probly beat him at that. even in a long race your going to get beat unless its way geared down, top speed is going to be way more.

My buddy's 03 KX125 with no mods at all beat a fully race modded, but stock bore rappy and a piped, filtered, and jetted 400ex in a drag, with no problem at all. The ATV riders weren't bad riders either. I rode his bike once, and it was faster than *****!!! If you ever get a 250, you better make out your will real soon, because your gonna kill yourself unless you have about 20 years of bike experience.

Or you can just learn how to ride. MX 250 dirtbikes dont have that much power. The only bikes I can think of that might be a handful is a cr500 or kx500.

lol, thats what i was thinking.

them lil 85s are just as fast as 400ex's, so even an 85 might beat one. now your talking about a 250, itll blow the doors off it.

I was being sarchastic. A 250 has PLENTY of power, but if you know how to ride it good, its fine.
