View Full Version : 400ex Grab Bar mod?

I heard something about using a 250R grab bar but I dont know how to do it. So how do you do this mod?

cut off the stk grab bar... weld on new tabs... bolt on the 250r grab bar...

cut the end off, weld tabs on, then bolt up the grab bar. im pretty sure thats what they do.:confused:

You use a 88-89 250R grabar, any style. Cut the stock 400 bar off and then weld tabs on the frame where you want the new bar to bolt on to. If needed I can post some pics of mine but not till this weekend.

i tried to rig up some wheels but I kept breaking and bending parts, axles, clamps, springs, bolts...

i cut mine off right in front off tailight mounts

if i did it over - i would weld tabs on top off frame -i didnt think the grab bar would clear plastic -but it will-measure twice weld once :D

Heres the pics of how I did mine. I wanted mine to sit higher so I made mine mount above the stock subframe. I also cut the stock tailight brackets that hold the light on the stock rear frame and welded them on the ends where I cut the rear grabbar off. This caps the ends of the frame off and makes it able to mount the stock light back on like factory.

thats a nice clean look-better than mine turned out
but im short -so the extra 2-3 inch lower grab bar is nice for me

Are the brackets like 1" Angle Iron?

The brackets are just flat iron about 1 1/2" or so high and maybe 4" long. I welded the nuts on the back then welded them on the sides of the rear frame. I wanted mine on the top because I thought it looked better with just a small gap between the bar and the plastic.
