I'm trading my blaster in very soon to get an 04 400ex. I went down to the dealership tonight and they want $4999 for a brand new one.

Seems like a decent price, would you reccommend getting any kind of extended warranty or anything? I plan to get skid plates asap, and other little stuff. I think it will be great over the blaster

i dont know.. if it would be a good move or not..

i am around 5'11 200pounds and i love my 400ex..

my friend that i hill climb with has a blaster he is 5'10 around 115 pounds and loves his blaster he will not get rid of the bike.. so far he has extended it out and took airbox lid off and got it rejeted and took the baffles out.. it would not beat my 400ex but some of the hills he had a small advantage .. like the ones really close where you had no take off somehow grab traction and go .. i seen it happend bunch of times everyone gets surprised when they ride with him.

he hated my 400ex i wish i could remember all the stuff he said about it .. but i dont .. lol sorry ..
but he loves my yfz also if you are gonna get skids and and a warranty that will set you back another grand and you can get the yfz for that much .. 5999.00

i miss my ex.. i just thought i would tell you because he is a blaster rider and wasnt impressed with the 400ex but i loved it . . it was more comfortable to me..
and it didnt break like his..

he cracked his swinger got it rewelded 3 inches longer :D broke his ball joint a few months ago and keeps beating it back in everytime we go riding.. so far its came out 2 times .. he hates that he cant jump.. but he still goes up hills with that missed up joint and recently he fliped and it held... the motor has a bunch of hours/miles and still running strong with no real build he runs kiotz. spectro/ amsoil.. whatever he can find..

Um, 400EX's around here are $4,300 (on sale. Around $4,600 normal.) Not $5,000 + tax and all that garbage. Sounds like you're getting ripped off.

Well, i'm tired of the bad suspension and no brakes on my blaster. Its just not fun for me anymore and i dont need the FASTEST bike around or anything. Just something good for trails and hills. I'm 5'4 140 pounds...even for me the blaster seems a tad too small

yeah he took off his rear brakes and did something to his front brakes to make them work better i dont know what he did...

ok i was trying to get you to buy a bike that you didnt want.. i love my 400ex and i would recomend it to anyone. but i also look at other views and i take other people's opinion in consideration.
that is why i told you what he told me.

right now there is a 416 ex in the paper wih beadlocks nerfs, renthal handlebars, elka, powderocated yellow.purple for 3,330...

it looks good.. i see it on my way home every day..

You shouldnt pay more than 45 for a new 400ex bottom line. The 400ex should be great for you. It is reliable as a rock and is great for hills and trails. I dont know what kind of rider you are, but the good thing is that the 400ex is one of the most upgradable quads around and parts are dirt cheap on message boards like this and ********.com and ebay. I agree that you should probably find a built one that is used and you will be saving alot of money and getting a killer quad. Unless you need to finance and thats why youre going through a dealer.... Anyway, take it from me, I own a SICK 426ex and I had fun on it when it was stock for woods, but I just needed to give it everything once I started racing MX with it. For hillclimbing you can flip that thing down almost anything and still ride it away no problem once you bend the handlebars back and all that if needed. So in the end I would go for it and get a used one that hasnt been beat on too bad and youll have a hell of a quad for what youre doing with it...

Well, my parents made a deal with me...if i pay the rest of my blaster off ($1200) then i can trade it in and they will make payments on the 400ex. I have 400 bucks now, so 800 is all i need to pay the rest of it off. I make good money mowing 5 yards, and i'm also parting out a 97 blaster on ebay here and there. It wont take long.

I can also use my money all summer long on modding the ex, and getting stuff for my truck. Then i plan on getting a job when i get my lisence. (middle of summer)

I don't mean to hijack, but about what should I be paying for a new 300EX. The local shop here wants $4,100 and I think thats too high. Pisses me off cause I bought a new CBR F4i last summer and he gave me a lot better deal. So much for repeat business. To be comparable to what I paid for the bike the quad should be about $3,850 which is much more livable.

2001400ex .... where abouts are you located. Might be worth the drive to save some cash if things are that much cheaper ...

Thanks.

i paid around 4100 for my o3 in november, so the 04s had just come out... they were like 4900... SAME quad. if you can find a leftover, you are definitly better off- if you get a leftover, with the money you save you can add on the extended warranty (which is what i did) and pay about the same, if not less. also, it is definitly easy to get parts for.

Nope, i ask about 03's and they have none. Oh well, i am kinda stoked about getting it anyway. Stock for stock, is the 400ex alot faster? I'm pretty sure it handles a hell of alot better ;)

butting in >>>

say i wanted a fast quad (like a banshee) but i also wanted handling of a 400ex, would it be cheaper to buy a shee, put on shocks, or buy a 400ex, and mod the motor. id like a shee with shocks.

Well, you would never get power the same as a shee with it being a twin cylinder 2 stroke, but from what i have heard adding a pipe kit, and getting a 416, 426, or a 440 kit and some other mods really wake the ex up alot
